    Worried I might have Shingles

My husband was just diagnosed with Shingles today. I've been having this really bad headache for the past few days. I've also been feeling sick and having body aches. Could this be early
    Symptoms of shingles?

Re: Worried I might have Shingles

Hi April, welcome to the Boards!

Shingles is not contagious that way. First of all, it only occurs through direct contact with blisters -- and it would only cause chickenpox in someone who has never been infected with the virus -- not Shingles. During the times before blisters and after crusting, there is no risk of viral transmission.

If you have had the chickenpox, then you already have the virus that causes Shingles. But it would come up on its own -- and not through contact with your husband.

    I hope this helps.

One, I did touch his blister before I knew it was Shingles. Two, my mom had shingles and she had chickenpox.

I think I did not explain it well enough.

Even if you touched his blister, you will not get Shingles. You will get chickenpox, unless you have already had it.

If you had chickenpox as a child, then you have the virus that causes Shingles in you. It can come up at any time. But you cannot "catch it" from someone else.

To be clear, if you have NOT had chickenpox, then that is what you can catch from your husband's Shingles. Not Shingles.
