Friday morning I found a strange red welt on my chest that over the next 2 hours developed into a blister. I happened to have a Dr appt that afternoon. By the time I had the appt. it was even bigger. The DR said it was shingles and put me on Valtrex 3 times a day, (horse pills!) I am just not sure it is shingles becuase I have not deveolped any more blisters. I do have the flu like symptoms, and a slight temp. Does anyone here know if you can have just one blister with shingles, or does it take time to break out? It's not that I want more, I am just not sure this is what I have. Thanks

Re: Shingles?

Is it painful? It shounds like shingles to me. I have it right now. I never had a fever. Mine started out 3weeks ago. It started with flu like symptoms, then into a constant itch, that no matter what I did, I couldn't scratch it. Two days later I had a small rash. Two days after that, it blistered up. I only have 2 spots. One about the size of a silver dollar pancake and one the size of a 50cent piece. And it hurts like hell.
You may not get alot of blisters, and I hope that you don't. Because I know the pain that goes along w/ this and I don't wish it upon anyone! It's also a good thing that you happened to have a DR appt that day. Since you were able to get started on meds right away, it should really help to minimize the spreading of the blisters and even the nerve damage that causes the pain. I wasn't so lucky. I had the blisters for 5 days before I made it into the doctors office.
Hope I helped. And I hope that you have a quick recovery.
Take care!

Re: Shingles?

It seems odd that this one blister is Shingles. Shingles follows nerve paths and it seem strange that this is just one? Unless of course you caught it before it traveled the nerve. It is absolutely a miracle that you got it and by coincidence saw the doctor so quickly this may have saved you months of pain and agony. Let us know how this all turns out.
