Question Could this be after Shingles Pain

Hi All, I am usually on the Fibro board but have landed here for reasons well known by most of you. I started having Shingles pain on the 28th of July. I was diagnosed on the 31st, one day after the rash appeared.

My question is how long does the pain and burning last after the scabs are gone? I am still very uncomfortable after taking the prescribed anti-viral med and was wondering if my Fibromyalgia had anything to do with this lingering pain and burning.

Hoping comfort for All,

Re: Could this be after Shingles Pain

Hello Cat,

I feel your pain, literally. I experienced my first shingles outbreak 46 years ago and subsequently developed PHN (post-herpetic neuralgia) in my 30s.
The good news: the likelyhood of you developing PHN has been markedly reduced b/c you were given antiviral meds.
The post outbreak pain & discomfort is variable (a few weeks to 6-9 months) but should diminish with time. In the event you think you are getting another, start the meds ASAP. As for the fibromyalgia being a complicit factor...I don't know.
Have you discussed it with your doc?
Wishing you comfort & a speedy recovery.
Wishing you releif and comfort.
