Rotator cuff surgery 3 wks ago

    Hi
I had RC surgery 3 wks ago, arthroscopic w 1 anchor pin and bone spur removed. I am still taking pain pills. Started w hydrocodone 10 ev 4 hrs now taking 7.5 strength every 6 hrs. Most times I can't make it past 5 hrs before too much pain. How long generally does a person keep taking the pain pills? I know pain tolerance is diff for everyone but this all seems pretty painful to me. Just wondering if this is normal? Will start pt in 3 more weeks. Right now just moving arm in small circles, arm hanging down then back in sling, dr said to do this up to 10 times per day.

I think at 3 weeks pain medication is still important. Some people find relief from ice packs
Even at 6 weeks you will need to take pain killers before Physio

Walking is good as it gets blood flowing to the shoulder to aid healing

Thank you for your reply. wasn't too sure if I was over doing it on the pain meds or not, or if it should hurt like this..they said recovery isn't easy but....
Good idea on pill before pt, want to get mobile asap but not looking forward to that appointment, the pill before should help.

Oh you are doing JUST FINE Robeewon taking these pills. The intensity of shoulder pain following this type of surgery is very very real for a long long time. You will heal well by lowering that pain while in PT....and taking medication to sleep better and do those 'baby step' circles and rolling those little marbles (maybe) and then wondering how you can hurt so badly once you are home is all so normal. Ice gels or ice machine or ice in a bag (covered with towels) or however you wish to do so. And always medication prior to going to PT along with an hour of heating pad. You are doing great.....but don't lower that med pleeeeeezzzzzzz. I had a Mayo medication Ph. D. ensure me that taking 4 Percocet a day of 10 mg would never never lead to addiction. He encouraged me to use that med for as long as the pain was high. I'll pass on his information. Stick with those good PT folks like glue....
