Nerve damage in shoulder?

Hello- I recently injured my shoulder while lifting weights. I was doing back squats with the bar in a different position than usual -- bar resting more across my deltoids and securing bar with arms vs. hands (due to injury on my left hand). No pain during set, but after the set my right deltoid has had a numbness/loss of sensation going on 4 days now. I can still move it in all directions it is just numb and weak feeling. Is it possible I damaged a nerve somehow? A little freaked out and hope it heals itself? It wasn't a high impact trauma and seemed benign. Any insight is appreciated.

Re: Nerve damage in shoulder?

How are you doing?

It sounds like it could be a pinched nerve. If it is not better by now I hope you have gone to the doctor. If pinched nerve a chiropractic adjustment may help too.

Re: Nerve damage in shoulder?

Thanks for the reply. It is still weak feeling. Did a few light sets of shoulder press and raises and it is overly fatigued. Much more than usual and it was with warm-up weight. I didn't feel a sudden or shooting pain anywhere when it started, but you think it may still be a pinched nerve somehow?

I'm going to a shoulder otrho in 2 days, but will look into a chiro and PT as well.

Re: Nerve damage in shoulder?

There certainly is probably some type of impingement going on. I know when the nerves in my neck are pinched, my arm goes numb and weak.

Today should have been your doctor day. Any verdict yet?

Re: Nerve damage in shoulder?

Yes, saw the doctor today. Said it is likely some minor nerve irritation/inflammation from the unusual position I had the bar resting on my shoulders. Said it should resolve on it's own over time. So I'm trying to just move on and wait and see.
