    What is Thoracic Outlet Syndrome?

I'm just wondering what is the difference between Thoracic Outlet Syndrom and a pinched nerve?

I asked one doc if I could have that....he said it wouldnt be a good diagnosis.

In short....nerve pain is just that...a nerve being pressed on or pinched or impinged somewhere along the route up from the pain or numbness etc felt. It could also be referred from within an area. Could be from the neck or upper back, tight muscles, injury..etc.

Thoracic pain is specific set of muscle, nerve, veins and arteries from neck to under the arm where the thoracic outlet is. Usually the space is smaller than usual causing some constriction on what goes through there.

a friends daughter has this, and had surgery for it. It seems that a bone is pressing in the wrong direction on a nerve

Re: what is Thoracic Outlet Syndrom?

I was fortunate to get relief with chiropractic care. I was in for something else and made the comment that for years when I raised my arm over my head it went numb. Was diagnosed with Thoracic Syndrom. I also had a tendency to work with my shoulders stuck to my ears which for me, aggrivated the issue, so had to retrain myself keep my shoulders down. For me, it has worked.
