Unhappy What is the best kind of birth control?

Well i have taken yasmin and it makes me moody. I also have taken ortho novum7/7/7. I have come to realize that high levels of estrogen are not for me. So what is the best one? I am currently not taking anything. Trying to start at ground zero. I want something that wont make me gain so much weight and will help with acne and i low on estrogen.. is there even a pill like that?

I am about to go on Yasmine. Did you gain weight from Yasmine and do you where contacts? One of the side effects that I am worried about is the pill may cause contact wearers problems and blood clotting behind the eyes. I am a nervous wreck to take it this Sunday .

Your concerns about blood clotting and problems with contacts are the same for all birth control options, not just Yasmin--just wanted to clarify that. These side effects are rare, but the healthier you are, the less of a risk there is. That's why women who the the pill should not smoke. As for contacts, you can always try different brands. That's what I did when I went on Accutane--I got a different type with a lower water content so my eyes didn't have to work as hard to keep them wet. And on Sunday, don't expect a marked difference... the side effects you're worried about would develop over time.

Well I think it all depends on your body. Every woman reacts differently to different types of Birth Control Pills... that's why there are so many different ones on the market! If we were all the same and we all reacted the same we'd only need one brand of pill. I'm still trying to find the right pill for me.

I was on Ortho Tri-Cyclen for a year and I got headaches. I went onto Mircette and that gave me really bad cramping. I was on Alesse for only 3 months because it made me feel like I was pregnant(bloating, moody, cranky). I'm on my first month of Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo and so far it's been going okay (knock on wood!) other than breakthrough bleeding because I'm getting used to the hormone change.

Talk with your prescriber, they should have suggestions as to which pill would be best for you. It's all about trial and error. good luck!

Talking Re: What is the best kind of birth control?

What a great website! I'm glad I found it.... especially since I had a lot fo questions regarding different types of birthcontrol.

As far as birthcontrol... My first was ortho tricyclen which made me very sick with nausea, weight gain and gave me acne problems that I never had before. One thing about ortho tricyclen is that it did not interfere with my sex drive at all. Second I tried Yasmin because it was a much lower dose pill and had less of an effect on weight gain, nausea etc.... I was on that for 1 month and threw that out really fast. I was cranky, moody, sluggish, gained about 8 pounds and I completely lost my sex drive! After that... I took a break from birth control for about 6 months and immediately within 1 month, I lost the weight gain of 8 pounds, got my sex drive back and was a nice person to deal with! Finally after so much time off birth control... I just started Mircette 2 weeks ago. The nurse told me that it's the lowest dose estrogen pill of 20 and I won't have as much of the side effects as the higer dose ones that are about 30 and 40. So far so good.... No weight gain, no bloating, no nausea and no acne problems....and I have a sex drive. My only complaint is that I have had some tiny break through bleeding, but I know that's just my body adjusting to the hormones. I know it might be a little too early to say anything... but this is my observation so far.

    Hope this helps!

I used OrthoTriCyclen Lo. It has low levels of hormones so shouldn't have as severe side effects.
