Are you working? I would guess not with a few other kids too. Have you ever thought of doing some part time work from home? Where there is a will there is a way. ebay is a great source for an extra income. take a few simple goofy items that you think you got for a good price and sell them on there to see what happens. Or are you a crafty person? Is there any kind of crafts you know how to make and enjoy? You can sell them on there too. there are a million things you can do with that if keeping the baby is only about money. i got layed off right before x mas and was pregnant and showing by then so we put our heads together and now i am making just as much as i was working. it is weird how things happen and faith helps.

Hey liltulip,
I don't want to say "DONT FREAK OUT", but when you are pregnant and adicted (plus adding a little bit of hormones into the mess), you will freak out. You are on alot of Norco, but the Doctors will know how to handle everything. I passes 21 kidney stones and had two surgeries during pregnancy. I practically lived on Morphine and Dilaudid pain pumps for 7 months. Then at home, I took oral pain meds. Of course, it is not the "ideal" enviornment for a baby to grow in, but they ARE tougher than you think. You will probably have to cut down majorly on the Norco use, but Cold turkey is probably not the answer. More than likely, you will have to use pain meds all through your pregancy. My advice to you is "BE PREPARED DURING LABOR" because the epidural probably will not work due to your pain med tolerance. Also, make a promise to yourself and your baby that you will get MEDICAl treatment for addiction after the baby is born. I struggled for months thinking I could do it on my own. I am now 21 days clean (with the help of an addictionologist and out patient rehab). At one time, I thought I just COULD NOT bring myself to seek medical help, BUT YOU HAVE TO. I was a nurse (before becoming a stay at home mom) and thought I knew how to deal with addiction and the whole tapering down stuff. I WAS WRONG. I have a very soft spot in my heart for all the pregnant women and mothers who are addicted. I know you can do it. Just PLEASE be honest with your OB/GYN during your pregnancy and they WILL help you, and PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE get help after you deliver. Don't do like me and wait 15 months later. It only gets worse. Good luck to you. And be proud that you were able to come clean in the first place about your problem. (Some people lie about the extent of the problem, I did). You will have lots of help during your pregnancy, and remember "You are no less of a person for being addicted". Do not let anybody make you feel like that. Good luck and lots of love to you.

Re: Just found out I am pregnant w/ Hydro addiction.

Hi Liltulip,

Well, tomorrow (its almost 11pm where I live- so its still Tues here) is the day for your much awaited doctor's visit. Just wanted to let you know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. As hard as it is, and I know it is hard, stay as positive and optimistic about things as you can even through the rough periods because ready or not you have a wonderful, precious little being to look forward to.

Thoughout my pregnancy and now the kids' doctor visits, I take a notebook with me to each appointment. This was/is to write down any questions or topics that I wanted to discuss with the doctor or write down something the doctor said. Between visits, if questions arise and can wait till the next appointment, I go then and write it down, or I forget or know there is something I wanted to ask but can't remember what. Anyway, thats my advice for the day

Please let us know how things go tomorrow, you'll be on my mind and I'm sure others' as well. We are always here for you. And as scared as you are now and as chaotic as things seem, I am sure it will all work out. Things always seem to have a way of doing that. Like I've said before, I believe everything happens for a reason. Try to take comfort in knowing that tomorrow is a new day and try to focus on the good.

Take care and I'll be checking for your post.
~Anne

Re: Just found out I am pregnant w/ Hydro addiction.

Okay, just wanted to report that I couldn't get in to my Dr. until next Wednesday so I am continuing to taper, actually I have sped it up after a small setback. By next Wednesday, I will be at 15.5 a day: better than 28! Isn't Methodone stronger than Hydrocodone adn make the WD harder on me and the baby? My husband feels differently now about the baby so that makes me feel better. What's one more baby? I just keep on praying , visualizing a healthy thriving baby and reading the bible and Joel Osteen's book. Anybody listen to him? Thank you for everyone who has said a prayer and say more please! I need to stop being so self absorbed w/ my own problems and try to help someone else. I will keep posting especcially after my appt. Can anyone tell me about Methodone?
Thanks!
Take care.

liltulip,

I am so glad that your husband is feeling better about having the baby! Just keep your faith and i am sure everything will work out for the best. You are doing an awesome job at tapering off the pills, just remember, go as slow as you need to, to make sure and keep the w/d's at bay. It will be stressful on the baby if you arent feeling well. It's better at this point to be taking 20 pills a day rather than cutting back so much that you are sick.

You are doing such a great job! I have so much faith that i am sure you are going to have a beautiful and healthy baby!!!!

Congratulations! ValleyGurl

Methadone is way stronger than hydrocodone. The doctore might tell you to get on that. If you do just keep your dose as small as possible. WD will not be that bad because they taper you down so slow. The cravings could kick your butt though. I was on it twice for long periodes of time. It kicked my butt harder than the drugs ever did. Good luck.

Re: Just found out I am pregnant w/ Hydro addiction.

Hi everybody,

I am excited and nervous about my appt. this Wednesday with the OB. I am praying that she won't treat me like scum. I am seriously considering going the methadone route and was curious as to how that works. Do you have to go to the clinic everyday to get your dose or once a week? Does anyone know? How expensive is it? -And will they taper me off it completely if that is what I want? I will see what the doctor says but I am pretty indecisive about which way to go, the methadone taper or to continue tapering off of Hydro. I am scared to go with methodone since it is stronger but I know I will save hundreds of dollars and that method has been more widely used in pregnancy from what I have read.
Well, thanks for any help anyone can give!
Take care

Is abortion an option? You could always get pregnant another time when you are healthier. I really feel sorry for you and hope you find a way out, but I know it is going to be a real struggle to get off the norcos, that means your baby will be stuggling more and it could even change the normal development of the baby. I had a girlfriend who got pregnant and we both wanted the kid, but she was already a month pregnant when we found out and she was drinking heavy and smoking during that time so we had no choice but to get an abortion.

Re: Just found out I am pregnant w/ Hydro addiction.

I am eight months preg. took hydro for 6 months, was up to 105 mg. aday.
didn't have anyone to turn too, but this board. I was worried about my baby, but at the same time I was trying to figure out how I was going to live without them. It's not easy and some people do not understand that, everything is not always in black and white, and I don't want to offend anyone, but giving up a baby when you are more than willing (as shown by your post) to get a handle on this, is not even an option in my book.
ypu can do it, for yourself and your baby, no human life is worth a few more doses of drugs. keep doing what you are doing and I and everyone here has faith in your ability to do what is right, regardless the hard road you must travel. but take it from me, I am clean 8 days now, my future and my baby's future look so much brighter.
It took me forever to confess I was preg. I thought everyone would look down on me, but that wasn't the case. All I have gotten is support and without it I wouldn't of gotten anywhere. you can go back and read my post, under taberlan (think I have a problem).
stick with it and be brave and when you feel like you can't anymore, then let us be brave for you. we will help you any way we can, ask questions, get advice thats why we are here along with all of our problems........

Re: Just found out I am pregnant w/ Hydro addiction.

Usually with methadone you have to go every day at first. If you drop clean then you start going every other day and then twice a wk and so on and so forth. But, if you can taper off the hydros and were not taking that much to begin with then i would go that route. if you can't get off the hydros sucessfully and have a high tolerance then i would go for the methadone for the baby's sake. You don't want your baby possibly going through minor spells of w/d if you cant' get the hydros at different periods and run out. If you were on a low enough amount of the hydros it should not hurt the baby. I am no doctor but i have been around the block a time or two. Methadone is a very hard drug to kick. they do give it to you and it is regulated and they do have knowledge of pregnancies with the drug. those are all good things but seriously i was worse off after the methadone than i ever was before it on herion. It is really strong and in my eyes, the best drug cuz it is good and pure. my addiction loved that. good luck

Re: Just found out I am pregnant w/ Hydro addiction.

Hi liltulip....Congrats on the new little one....a blessing in disguise....
Be honest with the Dr. on Wed. That is the only way out of this. You are going thru enough with the addiction and the children you already have....the Dr. are there to help US!!! They should be able to taper you really slow, you are early in your preg. right??? I took vikes on and off thru out my pregnancy for migraines and back pain, and the famous UTI....i never took them regularly until the last month or so...and my son was a little small but extremely healthy. I am sure the doctor will work with you to reduce your amound in the safest way possible. Please take care of yourself, you are worrying yourself sick, just worry about TODAY...stay stabilized on the smallest dose you can handle right now. I am sure the Doctor has run into these circumstances before. You are not the first, and won't be the last....
My prayers are with you....
love,
LISA

I am so grateful to have found this place and have been researching over old threads concerning pregnancy and opiate use but wanted to see if anyone has any advise or help for me. I feel like I am going crazy. I had an appt. next month to start the suboxene program but I just found out I am pregnant. I am about 5 weeks along. I started taking the hydrocodone for pain but my tolerance grew and then I started taking them for stress and a 3 a day habit of Norco 10/325 has skyrocketed into recently 28 a day! I know. That is hard to admit. After finding out about my pregnancy yesterday I have tapered down today to 24.5 and then plan to do a slow taper unless I should just go Cold Turkey but from what I have read suddenly stopping could cause the fetus to abort. Is this true? I am making an appt. with the OB for next week on my husbands day off so he can come. He doesn't believe me that the fetus can die from cold turkey so we are going to see what the Dr. says. Will the OB know how to deal with this or will I need to go to another Dr.? Also, I don't want to go the Methodone route because I hear that is harder to W/D from then hydrocodone. Has anyone heard of birth defects caused by hydrocodone and does anyone know anything concerning it's use during pregnancy. I sure do appreciate any help. I feel terrible and my husband treated me less than human concerning this last night. He is really scared that my problem will produce a defective baby. I can only give this up to God and do the right thing, but I don't know what that is! I feel terrible using now but am scared to do a r**** decrease in the amount I take for fear of losing the fetus. Atleast I found this community. Thanks!

Re: Just found out I am pregnant w/ Hydro addiction.

Hi
Congrats on your pregnacy.Yes I know for a fact that quitting cold turkey
could most likely kill the baby.I was pregnant and on narcotics medication,
When I found out I was pregant my doctor took me off my medication
right away.I went through bad withdrawls which ended in losing my baby.
I seen a specialist after this happened and was told my doctor should
have weened me off the medication and that because of the withdrawls and stress I lost the baby. This was said to me by a specialist so needless to
say I never went back to my family doctor I got another one.
Go see your family doctor and talk to him about weening you off your meds.
If you have a good doctor he will know the right way to approach this.
Don't feel bad alot of people have been in this same situation myself as well.
I hope your hubby stands by you and gives you the support you need.
Your in my thoughts and prayers.
Good Luck
Lacey
