Has anyone heard of Dr. Tobias? I heard that has was a really good surgeon in NYC and NJ. to do rhinplasty, but I am pretty hesident because I had a bad experence with the plastic surgeon that did my breast augmentation. Please let me know what you think of him. Thank you so much. Bela

    Re: Dr. Tobias?

I considered him briefly for my revision rhino., but didn't schedule a consultation with him because of all the mixed reviews on this and another board. Some of the people who had rhino. with him loved the results some other people said the hated their results. I only saw one picture of one girl who was very happy, and the ones who said he notched their noses didn't post pics. I didn't want to take the chance, so I crossed him off my list. I think I've found the right rhino. for me in Miami. So, my crazy search is over.

    Best wishes.

    Re: Dr. Tobias?

I had surgery with him in 1999. Let's just say that I would not go back. I am now looking for a revision rhinoplasty surgeon to fix the breathing problems that I now have, that doctors have stated are a direct result of the '99 surgery. I have a collapsed valve, slight deviated septum (which wasn't there before), and turbinate problem. Also, my nose barely looks any different. I asked him why, up until a year after the surgery, and he said it was swelling. When the appearence was still the same after one year, he admitted to me, "Well, yes, your nose is a little bigger than you or I would have liked." I wasn't really satisfied with this explanation...? Anyway that's all, would not recommend. Im looking at Dr. Toriumi in Chicago, I heard he's fantastic.

    Re: Dr. Tobias?

I had my primary and revision with Dr. Tobias. My nose never ended up looking how I wanted it and he agreed - which is why the revision. Finally, I had my yet another surgery with Dr. Toriumi (Chicago) about one year ago. I am finally happy. My nose is not perfect but it is the nose that I always wanted - and it fits my face perfectly. My nose after surgery with Dr. Tobias was pointy. I hated that! I would definitely recommend avoiding Dr. Tobias. I'm sure that there are some happy patients out there. But based on my experience, I don't think he has any special skill. And he can certainly mess up your nose. Dr. Toriumi said that the cartilege in my nose was really out of place. For whatever it's worth, that's my experience.

    Re: Dr. Tobias?

Hi. I have to be careful with my words so that I don't say anything that could get me in trouble.... As of right now, I have serious breathing problems that have been confirmed by other doctors to be a direct result of the rhinoplasty I had in 1999. I did not have these problems before that surgery. Anyway, about a week or two after surgery, I noticed a huge (bad) difference in my breathing. I told him at that point, "I can't breathe." He looked up there and said "I don't see anything." I have gone to two other doctors since then: one ENT doctor and Dr. Romo, who is a plastic surgeon in NYC. They both looked up there and saw several different problems. Let's just say that I find it hard to believe that Tobias didn't see anything. So, therefore, since my problems are a result of that rhinoplasty, I would rather put my trust into another doctor to fix the problem. I would not feel comfortable going back to the same doctor who did the surgery that caused my problems. Therefore, I did not ask him for any kind of fixes.

    Re: Dr. Tobias?

Hello Katherineutc....I also have the same problems as you. I have had 4 rhinoplasy surgeries, and now have a collaspsed valve too, and a deviated septum. I too never saw much difference in the appearance of my nose. All I got out of all those surgeries was a nose that I can't breath out of now. I need some help finding THE BEST RHINOPLASTY SPECIALIST. PLEASE PLEASE ANYONE that has had any sort of success with a Dr. please let me know your story plus who your Dr. was. I am trying to get two surgeries done at once. I want to have revision rhinoplasty plus breast augmentation. I want a Dr. that is great at both. I was going to try Dr. Brad Jacobs. Has anyone heard of Dr. Brad Jacobs? Katherineutc have you found a Dr. that has helped you get that cute nose you want plus fix your breathing? Anyone please write me if you have some advise for me. I am going to travel any where to fix my nose.

    Unhappy Re: Dr. Tobias?

    Hi HappyYellowRose,

I have narrowed it down to Dr. Becker in NJ or Dr. Toriumi in Chicago. I was leaning towards Toriumi but since I live in NJ, I realized it would be easier to have it done here. I went to Dr. Romo in NYC for a consultation but something didn't strike me right about him (and he really rushed me, to the point I didn't understand what was going on) and then I came home and read a bunch of bad stuff about him on here... so I renegged on the cat-scan I was supposed to get for him. It's come to the point, as I'm sure you can relate, that I really dont even care how much I spend or what I have to do. Not being able to breathe right affects my whole life, moment by moment. It's awful. As of right now, I am starting grad school in the fall, full-time, so I am planning to go see Becker over winter break and then hopefully schedule a surgery for when I am out of school for the summer (of '06). I'm sorry to hear you had 4 surgeries, wow... that's the kind of thing I want to avoid! I don't even care anymore about having a 'cute' nose, I just want one I can breathe out of, that's how bad it's gotten! PS - I have never heard of Brad Jacobs... Ive heard great things about Drs. Becker, Toriumi, and the guy in Miami (Dr. Davis I think). Plus Becker and Toriumi checked out clean in the malpractice department! I've got my hopes up!

    Hi again,

Look into Dr. Toriumi. I know he's far but he's supposed to be THE revision nose guy to see. I'll keep you and everyone else posted on who I use. I'll be praying for ya to find the perfect doc and to come through the surgery successfully!

    Re: Dr. Tobias?

I am not sure if Dr. Toriumi has a direct email... They have something where you can request an appointment. I'm sure he's pricey but you know what, I have realized that if I spend a lot with one of the best, then the odds are very good that that'll be it (in terms of having the surgery done), whereas if I go with someone who may NOT do a good job, I might end up having to get it redone 2-3 more times, which will cost more in the long run... so with your search, make sure you put the money issue aside. Do what you gotta do: get a loan, borrow, etc. whatever it takes. I know I will have to get a loan but I don't care, it's worth it to have that security. Just find the best doctor. Good luck and let me know what they say...

    Re: Dr. Tobias?

Hey guys -- definitely check out Toriumi. I'm having my primary rhinoplasty with him on Monday (soooo nerve wrecking!). I have definitely done a lot of research on this guy; so far, all I've heard is good stuff. He's very expensive, but come on -- it's your face, it's worth it! The only complaint so far is that he's not that personable. He's very professional and gets down to business. However, his office staff is very nice. WISH ME LUCK!!

    Re: Dr. Tobias?

I would stay away from Dr. Tobias. He totally messed up my nostrals. They are totally uneven. Horrible. I hate them. He did my nose about a 6 weeks ago and I now have to put my life on hold for at least six months until I can get it fixed. Stay away from him. You can do better. I truly wish I had know earlier.
