Microwave incident - has anyone heard of anything like this before?!

    Hi everyone

The oddest thing has happened to me and no-one seems to be able to help me - i.e. my own gp and numerous specialists. This is my first post and I am wondering if anyone out there as heard of anything like this or can give me some advice as I just don't know where to turn...

Approx. 3 months ago I was staying over at my boyfriends house and I was preparing some food in his kitchen. His mum turned the microwave on to do some cooking. I was approx. 1 foot away from it and air from the fan underneath was blowing into my face. Thought nothing of it as it was happening, but instantly as I walked away my eyes felt stunned and in lots of pain.

The next day I woke up feeling really odd - dizzy/motion sickness and dull weight around the front of my head.

Well you can imagine this was really scary! I have had these vertigo-type symptoms ever since. Then a month afterwards my fingers starting jolting, hands shaking, becoming really forgetful, right foot feels abit weak (but not numb) and my legs feel fluey-achey. I have not felt right since the incident and I feel the microwave has done something to me. I wasn't sure where to post because my symptoms come under various categories (i.e. my eye problem), but I feel that the microwave has attacked my nervous system (or something). Seen numerous eye doctors and a neurologist this week - none of them think anything is wrong with me. They think I have picked up a bug around the same time as standing next to the microwave and I'm coming to the wrong conclusions. But I know myself and I know it's more than that.

I have had all my hospital appts now and I am no better off. Has anyone heard of anything like this? The neurologist just did reflex-type tests on me and I have had no scans. I am wondering whether to go and get a second opinion or something...?

Oh and the microwave is 25 years old (did they really make them then!) and there is apparently no radiation leakage.

Any advice would be much appreciated...

    Sx

Gosh I Have Never Heard Of Anything Like This Ever Happening But It Sure Sounds Conincidental About The Microwave And All And Now It Make Me Scare To Get Too Close To My 20 Something? Microwave And Yes They Did Make Them Back. I Must Just Be Getting Old Because I Remember My First One And I Got It Back In Around 1980. Oh And Are You Sure About The "no" Radiation Leakage? You've Had It Tested? Hang In There And I Would Definetly Get Another Opinion And Another And Possibly More Test To Try And Find Out Just What The Culprit Of Your Sickness Is. Take Care. Will Pray For You!

Try goign for an MRI, I doubt the micrwave did anything but the symptoms sound neruological.

    Hiya
Yes I am hoping it is just one of those bizarre coincidental type things, but I would certainly be happier having a MRI scan or being taken seriously by the medical profession! Hope I haven't made you nervous about microwaves - I didn't think anything of them until this happened! Think I'm going to get a second opinion on me (and the microwave!) - the hardest part is not knowing what has happened to me, thinking I will never ever find out and wondering what long-term damage has been done. I'm hanging on in there. but it is really hard as I feel like I'm going round in circles. Hopefully time will heal. Thanks for your prayers...!

    Hi,
I remember the kid on my block that was the first one in the neighborhood that had this new space-age device.. a microwave oven. It was about 1971?

Of course I was very little at the time. Maybe just an egg still. hee hee.
I listened to Alice Cooper, Led Zepplin, Deep Purple...
    From the womb of course.

Anyway, I have gone on to become a microwave engineer!
It is unlikely that that short of an exposure hurt you unless the door was really in bad shape.

But, if you want to test the microwave, I think Radio Sh..k sells a microwave oven leak detector for pretty cheap. Waive it around the door and see how much leakage there is. You can also do a g..gle search for it as I know other companies sell them.

The price will be worth it if it puts your mind at ease.

Maybe the fumes from the microwave?

Or something else that happened around the same time that you aren't thinking of.

Or it may have been something that happened in the past that just decided to pop up that night..

I'm telling you if you really want to see if the microwave is leaking go out into the yard and grab a cat and do your test.... no no no don't listen to me hehe

Ahem! Anyways I was saying, Mehappy has a good idea. I would surely go and get a tester and see what happens. But as far as getting Micro Zapped??? I dunno about that. You would have probably felt it just as soon as it zapped you. I'm sure your anxious over this, are you sure your brain isn't convincing you that you have symptoms? Just my 2 cents. Please keep us posted as this is intriguing.
