    Question Strattera?

    Hi all,

I just have a couple quick questions. I was put on 80 mg. Strattera about four-five weeks ago (I worked up to it from 40 mg.)

    1. How long does it take to get the full effect.

    2. Does it make you zomby-like?(it does me) and does it last?

    3. Does anything else work better?

Thanks, just need some info on this.

    DarkAngel28,

I was on Strattera briefly for about 2 weeks. I found it helped my focus but day-time drowsiness was a problem. I did not notice any improvement in the two weeks. *They* say a couple of months to efficacy. Who *they* are is questionable but a few have posted good results with Strattera so maybe it is worth the wait.

I went to Ritalin - not bad but its short-half life made the ups and downs difficult. I now take Adderal XR on work days. Works good and so do I.

    Re: Strattera?

    Hi there!

    1. I was told it could take at couple months to take FULL effect, but that you should see SOME effects sooner.

    2. YES it made me extremely zombie like. I had a LOT of side effects, and for me they got worse everyday for the two months I was on it.

Here's my typical day on Strattera:

5:30am: Wake up, in a very good mood

    8-9am: Take Dosage

11:30am: Completely Lose Appetite, Feel sick

1:30: Become a Zombie, want to sleep

4:40-5pm: More Zombie like, want to sleep even more, crabby, sad

7:00pm: Very VERY down and depressed feeling, tired, feeling unable to get out of bed/off the couch, getting nothing accomplished, falling asleep for the night.

Then I would wake up energized and happy, only to repeat the process again. I never felt it helped my add.

When I stopped taking it two weeks ago, all side effects stopped, I was happier, I felt GREAT (but still ADD! )

    3. Just got a prescription for Ritalin SR yesterday, gonna fill it today. I was on Ritalin about 6 years ago, and from what I remember, it worked pretty well for me.

I take 80 mgs of Straterra a day. I have been taking it for about 11 months. It Made me real tired about midday. About a month ago I started taking 40 mgs in the morning and 40 mgs in the evening. It helped the side effects and now I'm not real tired midday.

Straterra works immediately. There is no waiting for it to get into your system like concerta, ritalin or adderal. Everyone's chemical make up is different. It didn't work for me. I was tired, sick about 2 hours after I took it, and it didn't help the slightest bit with focusing. I was put on 120mg for a month, but I really hate throwing up, which happened every day. However, my 11 yr old son is on it. It makes him a little sick after taking it if he doesn't eat before hand, but it works on his adhd quite well.

I think you have them confused....Strattera takes awhile to get the full effect and Adderall is felt right away.

    Hey Versailles,

I love your name..have you been to the south of France?

Sorry the reason I even clicked on your thread was cause your name attracted me..goofy huh?

Rittlan SR has been amazing for me...I have not however tried anything else...it lasts all day..and for me it helps me sleep awesome at night..

I focus a lot better..and for longer periods of time..I am not as quick to take offense or get mad..it gives me reaction time....

I am on 20mg of it.

I do have a loss of appetite..need to remind myself to eat..was 5'8 130....now 122pounds....I eat..I kind of think it has speed my metabolism..I don't know...as long as I still have my important curves..I'm ok..
I am so thankful for Rittilan and that it has worked as well as it has for me...Goodluck girlie...

I'm on 120mg of Strattera too. I want off, it does not make me tired, but very depressed. Did you have any kind of withdrawal symptoms when you stopped taking it?? Today I only took one of the 60mg and plan on doing so, but would like to know if there are any withdrawal symptoms. Thank you, Janine

    Re: Strattera?

i took stratera for about a year before i switched to a differant one

it took a couple days to take full effect, but i threw up for the first 2 months of taking it

it made me really sick and made me feel like i was going to pass out for the first hour of it, then after that it made me really depressed and anti social...i paid attention alot more, but i didnt feel like going anywhere or doing anything but work. i was never hungry and i had to force myself to eat.

i kept losing weight to the point where i looked sick, so i switched to concerta

if you skip one day of taking it, it might take a while longer to start to work again, so make shure your remmember to take it every day

    Re: Strattera?

I was on Strattera for two weeks and it did absolutely nothing for me except make me tired. However, two years ago I was on adderall and that made the world of difference I just haven't had any health insurance for the past year to keep up my meds (and my life has been hell) .

casinowife, cover your eyes while I use your perfectly fine post to vent to the world:
ANd When Exactly Is this FEELing Supposed to occurR??

Sorry, but sometimes a little sarcasm relieves the pressure.

It's now been about 18 or so hours since I took my Adderall and I have been skipping my afternoon Ritalin (my body doesn't seem to absorb the second release of the XR Adderall).

And now back to your regularly scheduled discussion.

P.S. I have a bottle of Strattera in my drawer, but can't remember what I hated about it.

    Re: Strattera?

I am 44 and I have ocd and add although the add was never diagnosed until just recently. I started taking Straterra and at the same time reduced my Paxil for the OCD. For the most part it has been great. I am functioning at a higher level than ever before. The problem I have seems to come somewhere between 11:30 am and 1:30 in the afternoon. At that time I experience what can be most closely described as a panic attack. If I take a Zanax it usually thwarts it, but I am left still depressed. I have always been prone to anger, with this new combination I am much less angry but I get very emotional maybe even paraniod, especially in the afternoon. I am going to the doctor to discuss this tomorrow. Some of the episodes I get very down almost desperate. That is the only side effect worth note, but I don't like it and it scares my wife a lot.

Today I took a Zanax in the morning and I had no episode. I have not experienced fatigue at all actually I have much more energy.

One thing I can't figure out is if there is a connection to food or not. My mood change comes after eating lunch. But I don't experience any real problem with dinner or breakfast so I am not sure if there is a connection or not. Today I didn't eat lunch, so was it the Zanax or not eating lunch?

    Re: Strattera?

I've been on strattera for over a year, and I've been very happy with it. I've taken adderall and concerta and focalin and riddalin and maybe one more. Concerta was alright. Basically, those drugs either made me tired, depressed, or feeling as though I was coffee-hyper or high or something. Strattera, I've found, can make me a little drowsy, but you can battle that by having a regular sleep schedule. That's good for AD/HD people anyway, on drugs or not. Strattera has been the best for me because I think it helps me focus when I need too, but still lets me be myself with my personality, energy, and ADHD brain--I think that's a good thing. Other drugs seemed to take away my personality and everything interesting about my day. So, to conclude, I've been happy with Strattera, and drowsiness from it can be countered with regular sleep as well as regular eatting and a generally healthy lifestyle... of course, I don't actually always do this, but I suppose that's my fault, not really the drugs.
