    Re: palpitations and Gerd

    Hi again KJHCHEMIST,
Is it possible for you to say the name of the supplement and can you buy it over the counter.? When I get these weird sensations I do get anxiety.

    To the group,
Is there any reflux med. that doesn't have all the scary side effects. I was going to ask my Dr. for Protonix but am not looking forward to nightmares. Nexium not only wasn't great at dealing with my reflux but gave me migraines and dizziness.
THe prevacid is giving me palps but works well for my reflux.
    Yikes.

I have to wonder how much of the palps relate to the reflux, and how much of it relate to the anxiety? Which comes first, the anxiety or the reflux? I know that they certainly seem to feed off of each other.

If I can say the name, I will...it's Relacore. If not, then I aplogize to the moderator.

I know that with all of this stuff, sometimes I feel like I'm going to lose my mind. I have a hard time dealing with it sometimes. Then I feel bad, I feel like I"m being weak, when I see other people who have horrible health problems and seem to be handling it all quite well.

Blah. I want to crawl in a corner and forget about all this.

    Re: palpitations and Gerd

Hi, I'm starting to wonder if "palpitations" (if that's what they really are!) are genuinely reflux-related. My own (brief) experience:

For some 2 months before I KNEW something was really wrong with me, I rather frequently had "heart palps" when I lay down to bed. I thought maybe just too much blood was rushing to my head or something (although bed's elevated already - for snoring!). When they'd occur, they'd be quite discernable, noticeable for some 10 sec at a time or so.

After starting Nexium - but I can't say right after - I've frequently had these little "heart skips", or even "breath skips", MAINLY after eating a meal. They'd be so brief I could hardly describe them, but that's the best I can come up with for these and the previous bedtime stuff - "palps".

I hardly ever have palps at bed now, but quite often after meals.

So my personal feeling is this is a symptom of reflux that doctors never talk about. No official medical or education site I've ever seen mentions "heart palpitations" as a symptom, but it seems alot of us talk about it!

So true. I've seen a lot of talk about it on message boards, like this one, but not elsewhere.

I did read one theory on several boards that talked about how reflux affects the Vagus nerve, which in turn will also affect the heartbeat.

All we ever seem to get from the docs is a heart workup and then they brush it off with a "don't worry about it" rather than an explanation.

If reflux affects the vegas nerve is this why I am so nauseus all day long?
Nausea, heart skipping beats, pain, funny shaky spasms? I get this and more and on zoton. Does anyone take anti nausea pills? If so which ones and do they work?

    Angeleyes,
I am being treated for either an ulcer or gastritis. I've been waiting for 3 months to see a GI Specialist and I'm real tired of waiting - I go next Tuesday. I don't have anxiety other than normal responses to situations but I took NSAID meds for years and the doctor thinks that's what caused my stomach problems. I can't live with these nightmares so I'll ask about what the plan is after I get a diagnosis. Suppsedly if it's an ulcer caused by long term medications which I'm not taking anymore, it will heal.

I've been off NSAIDS for almost 7 weeks and my pain is really bad. I'm reluctant to take any other pain meds or even vitamins that would upset my stomach. One thing I learned about NSAIDS as they block pain as well aa are antiinflammatories so I had no idea that anything was wrong with my stomach until the pain got bad enough that it wasn't even being blocked from the NSAID. Scary. I'll let you know what happens at the doctors.

    Re: palpitations and Gerd

I read on another thread that magnesium helps with the palps. I started it this week and so far my palps are reduced greatly. Just ease in to taking it. If you take too much it can cause loose bowels. I got 250mg. in tablet form so I can cut them in to 4ths. with a pill cutter and take less. It's worth a try. I thought then I would gradually increase the dose as needed.

    Re: palpitations and Gerd

Primary care told me to get off the NSAIDS. Unfortunately I need these to function well as my problem is complications from inflammation. I was offered some other pain medication but can't function with it because it makes me dizzy and sick to my stomach - even before these stomach problems started. I'm taking some tylenol but that doesn't even reach the pain. I've been asking the same question about why it takes so long to see a specialist. I've begged to get an earlier app't. The answer was that they are over run with patients needing to be seen and only see "emergencies" right away. That's not a very good excuse. The only tests I've had done were blood tests.

    Re: palpitations and Gerd

Hi everyone, Everything you all are talking about seems so familiar to me. About 6 years ago I had a was taking advil as often as I could because of pain. It was for my arthritis and had and arm pain. It really affected my gastro system. I was having alot of pain. So I had the endo scope and he found red sores in the duodenum (spelling?), stomach, hiatal hernia, and Barretts Esophogus. The yelled at me for taking advil. Now because I have essential thromobcytosis also they won't let me take any nsaids at all and my arthritis med at all. I have tried all those glucosamine stuff. It seems no matter what you take to fix something it causes something else. The only thing they suggest is narcotics and I sure do need another problem. If anyone has any suggestion for pain alternative (tylenol does nothing) I would appreciate it
