Is Lexapro actually good for lots of anxiety ?

Sorry guys I know this has been beaten to death, but I just wanna make sure. A couple of friends of mine are on Lexapro and they love it. It's really changed their attitudes for the better.

I am just curious if it's right for me. I've got a lot of anxiety issues, nothing crippling but seriously overwelming at times. Mainly unecessary fears, fears of bad things happening to loved ones all the time, stuff like that with some social anxiety as well.

    Any input is appreciated!

IMO all antidepressant meds are much the same, they either work or dont work for each different person, some get help for both depression and anxiety, some one only, and some never seem able to find 1 that will help them at all
lexapro is one of many prozac type ones and probably expensive, being new and still patented
generic prozac is very similar and usually lots cheaper
all antidepressants are heavy duty meds and probably overprescribed, they shouldnt be taken just because they are fashionable

Re: Is Lexapro actually good for lots of anxiety ?

    hi
i've been taking lexapro for a little over two weeks... i know it's too early to really know how much it will help me, but I think I feel better and my bf notices that i'm not as anxious as I usually am.
we shall see how I do in the coming weeks.
good luck to you. it's true that what worlks for one person doesn't always work for another etc... but if you don't try, you won't know.

Thanks for the replies, anyone else?

I need something to help me. I've just recently had my heart broken by my son's mother again, and everytime I think about it (pretty much all day every day) I have an anxiety attack. I need something to help

Josh - Try the Lexapro. For 3 years I refused to take an AD - I was taking Xanax and that was ok with me. Pretty soon though, I started having anxiety all day every day, and since Xanax only works for a short period of time, I kept taking more and more. So my dr. prescribed me Lexapro and I but the bullet and took it. Now my anxiety is virtually gone (except during stressful periods of time). I still take Xanax because it is helpful in the rare event of panic.

Guys I really appreciate the feedback. Just got back from my doctor today and asked him to prescribe me Lexapro and he did. I will keep everyone posted on how it works. If it will help my anxiety, it will help ANYBODY cause mine is terrible.
