    Smile Intralase Custom done today

just wanted to let everyone know that I just had the intralase custom lasik performed today and had to say it was a great experience. they did my left eye today and will do the right tomorrow. After reading some of the post on here I was leary and almost called to cancel my appointment a few times. It looked like there were a lot of post about severe pain and discomfort from the suction device. I didnt even feel a thing. Im 29 and before today my vision in my left eye was 20/400, after the procedure it was checked and found to be 20/20. It was a little nerve racking at first so I opted to have a dose of zantex, it didnt seem to calm me down that much (Dr said maybe because of my size, 6'4 240, but it made the time fly by. When I arrived the DR checked my vision and then explained the procedure. after that they put some gel, antibiotics, and numbing drops in my eye. I was taken to the room and the Dr marked a few spots on my eyes for reference points and then fired up the laser to get me accustomed to the sounds, it sounds like little sparks firing. After that I was placed on the table and told to relax while they fitted the vacum device on my eye, it took 2 times because I was told that I was very tense. After it was applied they began suction and my vision slowly faded about 99%. It looked like I was lokking out of a wiffle ball. Then they said to sit still and the laser to cut the flap started, it looked like a dim orange light coming across parts of my vision field. Oh, as far as the suction, there was no real sense of any pressure and it lasted for about 2 minutes. After the flap was cut they told me to shut my eyes until they moved me over to the laser that reshapes your eyes. At this point they put the eye lid holders in and I didnt even feel a thing, after that the Dr told me I might feel a little pressure as she pulled back the flap. It almost looked like it started as one bright circle and as it was removed ten circles and then just blurry vision for about 3-4 minutes. Then i was told to lay still and stare at the laser above me, it began zapping and it only lasted about 30 seconds, but what a smell, almost like burnt hair. After that was completed the flap was repositioned and the doctor began to smooth it out, she did this for about 4 minutes to make sure it was a great fit. Then I got to sit up and was asked to look at the clock and tell her the time. At that point I could tell somewhat of a difference but not major, maybe the meds kicked in. After that it was back to the eye charts for the testing, she even informed me that theres a great chance I will be better than 20/20. I was given 2 different drops that I have to put in, one was a milky type drop (econopred plus)that goes in every hour, and the other drop was Vigamox, that goes in four times a day. I was told once I got home and on the way home to try to get at least 2-3 hours of sleep because this will aid in the healing process. It was nice to read signs from so far away and be able to see license plates and tree leaves. Im very excited about going back tomorrow. I ll keep everyone posted weekly on my progress.

Glad you had a good experience with the first eye! I'm sure you will be much more relaxed for the second. Thanks for sharing! Wish you the best in your post-op healing!

hi, again I had the right eye done today a few hours ago and am very happy with the results. Basically went through the same routine as yesterday, the suction pressure was a little greater and the laser seemed to last a little longer but otherwise no problems. Once I sat up there was a fog to the room and that lasted until about an hour ago, theres still a little left but I didnt fall asleep for as long as I did yesterday. Hopefully it will be all gone tomorrow. I have though begun to taste the drops at times in the back of my throat. I asked the Dr my vision before and after in this eye and it was 20/100 and is now 20/15, however she is optimistic that it will be closer to 20/10 by the end of healing. My left eye has a little bit of swelling but not enough to worry about though. I would reccomend UPMC Eye and Ear at Presbyterian Hospital to anyone. Everyone was so nice and they talked you through the entire procedure. I ll update after my appointment tomorrow morning.

Your welcome! So far so good. Im about 1 week post surgery and everything seems to be going great, I notice my eyes are occassionally dry and both of them are still a little bloodshot. I go to my check up on Friday and will let everyone know how it goes. The only thing that bothers me so far is at night. My night time vision is great unlike before the surgery I had a hard time driving without glasses because of the lack of vision and also it always seemed so dark out even when it wasnt. Now it is perfect as far as the darkness and my vision but going down the highways is interesting, it seems like everyone has their high beams on . Its not a big halo, maybe the light extends about 2 feet around the source. Also white, orange and red seem to have the worst effects. Also, it seems like the road signs and road markers have a glare from a distance but from 20 feet or closer the glare completly disappears. This is normal from what I was told and should go away with time. As far as my drops, I am only taking the predisone(steriod drop) 4x a day now and using the systane eye drops occassionally. Oh, I almost forgot, I was given a pair of lightly tinted sunglasses for the daytime however I tried them at night and it almost eliminated a great bit of the halos. Im just grateful that everything turned out the way it did so far and am glad I havent experienced any starbursting around lights. I still would reccommend this surgery to anyone that is dependant on glassses or contacts.

    Re: Intralase Custom done today

went back to the Dr yesterday and got great news. I am off all drops now and have normal tear production I dont have to go back for a month and then after that 6 months then a year. The glare is still about the same at night but as mentioned before the halos around lights has become a lot better, the rings are still there but not as bad. Dr is still expecting 20/10 vision when healing is complete. My eyes were a little dry this am but that was after a night of drinking

    Hi again,
just wanted to let everyone know that I m still doing great. Its going on 3 weeks and everythings getting a lot better. The glare at night is still going away but not nearly as bad as it was. Also, the car lights (high beam and low beam) for oncoming cars are also normal again, it doesnt look like the high beams on others cars are on. As far as the redness/hemmoraging on both eyes, its about 60% gone and gets better each day. As far as the dryness, I may at the most experience dry eyes 2x a week only in the morning which is nice especially not having to buy systane anymore. I usually carry my drops just in case but havent had to use them. I even sat through a 2 hour movie last night along with a few beers here and there and no sign of any redness this am. I go back to the Dr on 11/20 and I ll keep everyone updated.
