    Re: Question about iron infusions

Tomorrow is a week after my first iron infusion. I'm still like walking in the space ship! My headache haven't gone yet. They induced when the iron kick in. My lower abdomen dull pain which is stay there for a week now. How long would the achiness go away? They didn't give me benadryl, they gave me Hydrocortisone. Any difference?

    THANKS SHAMROCK!

Well I called the Clinic I am supposed to go to and they told me they use
Sodium ferric gluconate , I do not know if this is better , I am going to call them and ask why I can't have what you had. I really am nervous and as I said like you I am allergic to everything though if you also have lupus I have a friend with that and does that not give you more immune problems so my guess is if you had no reactions to your transfussion, severe I mean then thats what I want. I am the kind of person that always had the reaction.
I am in Massachusetts but about 30 min out of the boston area so my guess is your going to a big boston hospital and I am stuck out here in the subs, lol
I have been told go to boston, better there. Well thanks for info and support. I actually have my apt this wed which I am now going to cancel as I woke up yesterday with a tooth abcess which is move pressing for me now and I do not want iron transfussions on antibiotic as I feel too much interaction, etc
Though the doctors never think of that stuff I do. And I have lived this long without the Iron I guess another week won't hurt. My hcb runs about 8 and my hct about 30 and mcv 69 and mch is 22 but my ferritin was less than .5 six months which is less than one.......and last week is was not even measurable so thats when the doc said straight iron. I had the endoscopy and colonoscopy and they found nothing, etc Of course you tell the docs and they don't belive you but where I fainted they said lets go see. Now I just deal with the fast heart rate which is not good but I can live with it. Thanks and I will be back to let you know what ended up happening, thats if I make it, lol

A venofer iron infusion only last about 30 minutes after the IV is started. The hardest part is getting stuck for the IV!

    Hi Nu2patch,

Your lucky your iron is 7 mine is zero yes, well it was less than one half of one then next time it was zero too little to measure doc told me

I was supposed to start iron transfussions but I was too scared to go I guess I research too much on line about reactions, things the doc don't want to tell you of course

I also get the cracks on the cornors of the mouth, I also get believe it or not chills, I think its cause my iron is so low my body is trying to heat itself up
I also, don't sleep well and I have on occasion heart rapid beats, etc
Been to reg doc and blood doc and they both say its the low iron
About six months ago I was so low I passed out and ended up in hospital SO
NO, don't be like me and avoid it
    Do listen to your doctor
One thing I think I found from research is, I had changed my diet about a year ago, to include more dairy and fiber, thought I was doing the healthy thing, etc But seem diairy stops absorbtion and fiber pulls the iron out so
I have kept the same diet I like it..........but I watch my timimg SO I am trying to see if that makes a diff because in the end, you could have other underlying problems
Like when I passed out they checked me for glutten, sprue, b12 diff and a few others So sometimes there can be other causes
    Good Luck!
