    Re: scheduled for tummy tuck

you'll do fine. I've heard of pain pumps but didn't have one so not sure how that works.....

Spanx is a light weight girdle that is super comfortable. I wore mine and still do sometimes after I got out of the compression garment. Its lighter weight and doesn't show under clothes.

And to make you feel better I scream/cry too when I come out of anesthesia!! Glad to hear I'm not the only one. It drives my husband nuts (which is sorta fun on its own, hee hee).

    Re: scheduled for tummy tuck

I used to get sick from anesthesia also so I talked to my doctor before surgery & then to the anesthesiologist too about it. They put medicine in your I.V. & also can give you a chalky little drink before they put you under. It worked wonders for me. I had my drains in for 12 days & the tissue began to grow on the tube. It hurt just a little when the doc pulled them out but he did it so fast it was like ripping a bandaid off. I had mine done 12 years ago & I'm still numb from my belly button, from hip to hip & all the way down to my pubic bone. With a full tummy tuck they have to cut your tummy muscles to get it flat again so the surgery is pretty painful. Saying that, I've never been sorry that I got it done! Good luck!

Thumbs up Re: scheduled for tummy tuck

Hello everyone!! Been 2 weeks and 2 days since tummy tuck with lipo and eyelid surgery!!! I'm back home and all in all feel okay!! Had drainage tubes in for a week and they really weren't that bad. Scar looks really "funny", but they sew you different than regular stomach surgery so that when the swelling goes down, the scar will not concave in. have a brand new belly button that I do have to put peroxide in daily to keep from getting infected. Was bruised alot, but I bruise easily anyway and it is now 99% gone. Just can't wait till the swelling all goes away. How long did anyone have to deal with the swelling? the "compression" garments/girdles are a little annoying, but hey it's worth it!! never got sick when woke up....felt okay except for some pain which would be expected!! was and is if I'm really tired to stand up real straight because of the pulling. one stitch that was taken out that was really long did "sting" quite a bit...it was "woven" in the skin to help the closure. Will keep you posted on all that's going on!

    Re: scheduled for tummy tuck

YAHOOOOO Glad it all went well and everything sounds like its going good.

Swelling......well I had it for a while but I swell if I look at a glass of water My body loves to retain water

When they took your drains out - was that not the weirdest feeling???? Oh I still remember that and its been 7 years!! I think I told you but my drains stayed in a lot longer than most and I still had to have fluid drained 4-5 times over a few weeks after the drains had been taken out. Luckily it didn't hurt at all (still numb) - I just learned NOT to watch. But I will say and I'm sure your doctor would, just if you feel that you have excess swelling to have it drained.......You and/or your doctor will know if you have too much fluid and whether they should drain it or not. I just chose especially after I realized it didn't hurt, to have them go ahead b/c it lessened the tightness/pain for me.

You do know that the more you do the more you will swell for a little while? This lasted for a good 2 months with me (more from the lipo though than the tummy tuck). I think I wore sweats/work out clothes for a good 2 months. Jeans were the last thing I finally felt comfortable in and that was hard for me because I wear them every day/night. Bruising, wow, I had horrible bruising but once again I can barely run into something and bruise like I've been in a car wreck. The lipo really causes a lot of bruising and weird colors and "designs" but it does go away, PROMISE...

If you haven't already go and buy some Spanx. I wore my Spanx for a couple of months or more. I ended up starting with a larger size b/c of the swelling tight but not real tight and then as my swelling lessened I had to go and buy smaller sizes. NOW THAT IS THE FUN PART!!! Wooo hooooo.

If I didn't wear my Spanx - It was weird I felt like my stomach pooch (which was no longer there) was going to expand all of the sudden if I didn't have some sort of compression garment on. Try to imagine your foot asleep and you are looking at it knowing you are walking on it but you can't feel it. Does that make sense at all, lol. I was numb for a good 3 months or more so I think that and the wow factor of no longer having a pooch was just too much for my mind to accept .

Anyway..........I know its a bit early but can you at least see the results from your tummy tuck? Are you glad you did it now?? I remember just looking at mine thinking "this cannot be my stomach" - it was flatter than it had ever been and honestly 7 years later and fluctuation in weight it still remains flat as a pancake whether I'm at the gym 4 times a week or take 2 weeks off. So I will continue to kick myself for not doing it sooner but hey, better late than never!!

Take care of yourself and don't over do it and definitely keep me/us posted on your recovery!!

    take care

ps........how are your eyes?? I haven't checked but do you have a post about that? I am seriously thinking about having mine done but I am terrified. I just want my under eye bags gone (swelling/fluid??) and have 2 consults coming up and I'm hoping they will be able to tell if it is fluid swelling or the fat bags. Its almost like I want someone to drain the fluid out under my eyes like they did with my tummy tuck but who knows? hopefully I'll get answers at my consult but let me know if you have a post about your eyes.

    Re: scheduled for tummy tuck

It was very weird having drains removed! I still keep looking for that big roll around my tummy that hung down!! No store near me sells the Spanx, but I'm wearing flexees (sp) that feel great ! Feel lost without them on! I don't understand the "knots" in my upper stomach area and my upper butt cheeks. He did do lipo on the stomach and flanks though. I do see results since the roll is gone and a actually have a "curve" on my sides !
did not know the more you do the more you swell
I'm still having trouble sleeping....I usually sleep on my side and that's just not working....trying to use extra pillows to help roll over a bit to one side.
But, I am sooooo glad I did it !!!! very anxious to see the final results !! maybe by summer I'll be ready to wear a shirt tucked in !!!
Love my eyes....just had the upper lids done. Looked like I had been in a fight for a couple of days, and then the bruising "fell" to below my eyes and the swelling went down within a week. Put mascara on for the first time and actually could see lashes!! Now, like you, I'm looking forward to getting back in some jeans!!!!

    CONGRAT

I am so happy it went well for you. I hope you are being taken care of. You seem to be doing so much better then I was. I felt trapped at home. All I could do was this bent over shuffle. I just wanted to go shopping or something. My swelling lasted awhile as well. Trust me I was like OK lets go here. Jeans were my last thing too. I just hated that feeling of jeans on my numb skin. You get used to it though. I never did get feeling back

Isnt it great to bend over and not see this flab hanging over

Congrats again...i am so happy for you. I know how it feels confidence wise to have that skin gone!!!!

    Re: scheduled for tummy tuck

Good to hear it is going so well..........it takes time to get back to normal and the further you get from your surgery date the better the results become so patience and you will have your twinges and funny numb feelings for a while if not longer (like luckystar mentioned).

I was just telling a girlfriend this week who is considering it to not put it off if she really wants to do it because that was my only regret waiting till I was in my late 30's and not having more time to enjoy my flat tummy.

Glad you found something similar to Spanx. Do you not live in a "big" city? I bought mine at Dillards. Anyway, another option is tummy control panty hose. And I literally wore grandma underwear/girtle when I slept -- I felt the more compression while I was sleeping the better.

Sleeping is an issue after surgery. I think I had every pillow in the house on my side of the bed, lol. You'll soon find your "sweet spot" to be comfortable and then it will be nighty night. If not just call your dr and ask for a sleeping aid to help through the first few nights - you gotta get sleep

Take care and so glad it is all going well!!

    Re: scheduled for tummy tuck

I live outside Philly and there is a large mall about 1/2 hour from me.....just don't like to drive to it.
Absolutely have your friend go ahead and do it. I'm 51 and I sure wish I had done it earlier!!!
Did you ever have these funny "pulls" and "stretchy" feelings in different areas afterwards? Of course, I'm still "knotty" from the lipo and numb in most all areas.
Going back to TN end of month for a check up.
Did you decide on your eyes?

    Re: scheduled for tummy tuck

Lord I had funny twinges and pulls for months - you'll get used to it and yes they do go away eventually. I did have endermology (sp?) after my lipo and that definitely helped those knots so you may want to try that but check with your dr first.

No haven't done my eyes yet - adding onto our home (new kitchen, etc) has taken more of my time than I ever would have dreamed of; not to mention $$$$$. BUT all should be finished by the end of the year so I can then sneak in and get them done before Spring. Always something

Safe trip back down here - wear a coat - its cold today and supposed to be even colder tomorrow - FINALLY.

good to hear from you - stay in touch

I felt lots of "weird" things and had lots of twinges and ouchies for weeks and even a few months. It takes a while to heal. Just make sure you aren't wearing too tight of a bra band - that might be causing some of your issues your describing? Even though it looks healed on the outside there is healing going on underneath the skin too and I think it takes longer on the inside.

Is there any heat or warmth to the area you are feeling sore? or swelling? If so call your dr to just have him check. Better safe than sorry. I drove my dr crazy with all my questions but hey that's why we paid them, right??

    take care

Bra band feels fine..it's the area just bellow it and above belly button which is still healing. I peroxide it everyday at least twice..
The area does feel warm to the touch and a little discolored.....guess I'll give the doc a call tomorrow just to ask. I to have been on the phone with them quite often....but, they say they are used to it!
    Thanks for the info.

P.S. went online an ordered Spanx.....just gotta try them after all the "raves" about them...doc said I just needed to wear "compression" for about a month, but its been 4 weeks and I feel lost when I don;t have one on

Can't wait to hear what you think of the Spanx

The reason why I thought it might be your bra band is because if it is too tight the swelling can move to the next best "spot" so that still maybe what you are feeling and has just moved north so to speak? I had bruises in areas that were odd too - everyone heals differently........But yes........do call your doctor - I called and even just dropped by my PS office with questions all the time and trust me they don't want something to go wrong either so never hesitate to call them - especially since we paid good $$$ for our beauty

    take care
