    "Best" antibiotic" and doctor to treat sinus infection?

    Hello All;

    I am in a bit of a bind here....Going on three weeks since I had a dental extraction and same day implant. Took penicillin based antibiotic post surgery as a preventative measure but no pre -surgery infection. At any rate...about 10 days ago I started getting signs of a sinus infection...Oral Surgeon says no connection to the premolar extraction and implant - okay.....Never had sinus problems on this side of my face until now. He is just not being helpful...He says I could try some zythro. for a week to see it that helps but other then that has no idea why I am having symptoms? Okay...

    So my questions....is Zythro a good antibiotic for a sinus infection? At this point should I see an ENT doc? I was putting it off since I really believe it is related to the dental procedure but since the O.S. does not really think so should I see someone who might be better qualified to deal with this? Problem is my teeth throb off and on as well....I know the two can be connected but at this point when the O.S. looks at me like I am from Mars and does not think there is a connection should I still take the zythro or see a ENT.. Sorry for the long post but I am quite confused and concerned about this...Any thoughts or experiences? Thanks TG

    Yes, a Z Pack is one of the standard antibiotics for sinus infections. I see no reason for you not to take it. But you could try an ENT if that would make oyu feel better. That's what mine prescribes.

    Thanks! Yes, I will take it as long as I know that is of the more commonly perscribed antibiotics. I will see if it does the trick - if not then off to the ENT. Thanks again for your response. TG
