Unhappy New to board--lower back/hip/leg pain

Hi Everyone..After reading lots of these my problem doesn't really seem that important. I truly hope you each find some answers and pain relief.

Now I would really love to hear your thoughts on my pain and what you think might be the cause of it. I'll start at the beginning.

When I around the age of 8 I was on a rope swing...it broke and yep I fell on the tree root...bruised tailbone is what my mom said...nothing can be done...it healed. Then when I was 16 I once again fell on a tree root ( gotta love them )...and it seemed to have healed..I just couldn't sit flat on a hard chair. I would sit on one side of my butt then the other lol.

Then when in my late 20's the place I worked had cement floors and I worked 44 - 56 hrs a week standing and walking. I did this for 11 years...and toward the end at times I could be walking and it would feel like something would catch in my lower back and start throbbing/aching. I went to GP and explained what was going on. After a short exam he told me that my tailbone was crooked and that I seemed to have jammed it. He said that I would arthritis but there wasn't alot I could do about it...just deal with it.

Then 10/06 I, like a silly person, leaned on the arm of my computer chair to look out window.....and yep you guessed it. It flew out from under me and I landed hard on my butt. I couldn't move for I know a full 5 minutes because I was hurting so bad and holding back tears because my 4 year old grandson was there with me. I hurt like I had never hurt before but just at my tailbone no where else. So I thought I had probably broken it that time, but remembering what my Doctor had said years earlier I didn't go see anyone because I didn't think anything could be done. It took weeks to finally be able to sit on one side of my butt again without severe pain. Walking was almost impossible the first week..I did do it with some pain pills that I had from a tooth being pulled. Then 2/08 my BIG problems begin I just didn't realize how big. I started having lower back pain just a little above the tailbone area...then hips started aching, in a couple of weeks it had moved on down to include knees; with my left side of my body being the worse. Dr gave me cortizone pills and it did seem to help for about a week then it would start back with hips throbbing more than before and the longer up on it the worse it would get. At times I would have to pick up leg to get in the car because it hurt and felt so heavy. He ran blood test...I did not have RA. But my thryoid levels were really off so for almost a year they have been telling me that was the reason I was hurting.

Around the end October last year it got worse, I couldn't sleep, couldn't sit still for long, sure couldn't be up on my feet for long because my left lower back and hip would have sharp shooting pains that would shoot on down my leg. I went to a different Dr and he wanted to start running lots of test and so forth but I had made plans to go visit my grandsons that I hadn't seen in months and months...it was Christmas time. So he gave me some pain pills to help me with the ride down (12 hours ) Bad mistake!!!!

I have scheduled appointment with him for next Tuesday because I just can not take it anymore. If I really limit myself to staying still not up on my feet and not overdoing things it is just a minor ach most of the time. But let me go to store to pick up a few things...not even being in there 20 minutes. And my back/hip/and left leg throb so bad I will almost in tears. Heating pad at night use to help some...but now nothing.

I am so afraid it is not gonna be good news that I have put it off not wanting any bad lol. I, myself have also had some super experiences with some DR's and surgerys that I have had so I put off going to a Doctor until I just can not take it anymore.

Oh WOW, I am so sorry that this is such a long post but I really wanted to get as much info in as I could.

I truly feel your pain. I don't have a fracture but I suffer the same pain and problems. I can't grocery shop without wanting to leave the buggy. My pain started in my back about age 11 and I am now 36. I put the pain off for years and years. Bad mistake! I have had 3 back surgeries and still suffer from pain.. Please do not continue to put it off. Go see your Dr. Whether it is bad new or not, you need to know.

I have an appointment with Tuesday morning at 9am and your right I do need to know. I might be suffering for something that could have easily been fixed and no way to know that unless I let him check me over.

I'm really kind of nervous about it after reading everyones story. Can you kind of tell me what to expect him to ask and maybe test that would be run? I mean I know xrays, mri and ct. But is there anything else? Is there some questions that I should be asking him when I go in Tuesday? LOL other than can you pleaseeeeeeeeee stop this pain.

Re: New to board--lower back/hip/leg pain

    Hi Angelina
sounds like you are in a lot of pain. and it also sounds like the advice that you have been given could have been better. With all the falls that you have had over the years your body I am guessing will be out of balance. I think this was highlyted when you had that job of satnding on hard concrete floors for many hours. What happens to your body when you have had a fall like you have had, is that your body goes into compensation mode. So it will do a fantastic job of adjusting to the trauma that has been placed up on it.
Most likely you will have a twisted or rotated pelvis with one of your legs being shorter than the other. This shortness is to do with the musles been tight in different areas and not the actuall bone length. also the muscles that run either side of your spine are probable very tight and blocked up.
You need to find a practitionar that specialises in deep tissue full body massage. It need s to be full body in order to get you body back into an even balance.and your muscles need to be manipulated back to good health.
this will take some time as you have had this problem for many years and I am not sure of your age but the older you are will also add to the healing time.
I doubt that surgery will fix your problem, because if your muscles are in bad health and they are tight and blocked up before surgery they will be that way after surgery.
also what is your diet like? the food you eat will have a massive impact on the aches and pains you feel. Things like processed foods, sugar in any form, to much bread and pasta will make you body very acidic and very stiff. Fresh is best lots of vegetable, good sources of protein and fruit. Organic is best.
I hope that this may open your mind to other therapies out there, I see alot of people that have done the rounds of doctors and surgens with little or no relief.
    all the beat.
    Peter Robinson.

    Peter,
You have given me a great suggestion. I will bring this up Tuesday morning and pray that will be all there is too it. I mean heck who wouldn't like an all over body massage in place of some PT or surgery...lol BTW I will be 44 in June

    thanks for responding

Re: New to board--lower back/hip/leg pain

    Hi Angealina
don't get me wrong it will take time and effort to get your body back to good health, and also be aware that many approaches to back pain just treat the pain and not the cause. You may be a little different bacause you had a direct impact injury but you should be able to find great relief with the right therapist. Deep tissue massage is a must and not a luxury. Just like you need to service your car to keep it running smoothly you also need to have your body reguarly maintaned so it doesn't break down.

    all the best.
    Peter
