    Re: Klonopin taper

You're doing great confusedman!!!! Keep up the good work! I too am slowly working on a klonopin taper; I'm down to .125 a day from 1.0 mg, over the course of a month. And remember, it is hard, but it is okay, you will get through this!!!!

By the way, are you any other benzos or meds? Sometimes doctors augment tapers with other drugs.....???

You would probably find the taper much easier if you switched to valium. Klonopin is just too short acting. I have been on and off benzos for over 20 years for anxiety and I can tell you that they rarely work for anxiety long term, as you will build tolerance to them quickly. Long term treatment of anxiety is best done with an SSRI antidepressant.

    Re: Klonopin taper

Yes, I'm on 20 mgs/daily of Paxil for anxiety and OCD. In the past I used benzos to treat the anxiety, but they have no benefit for OCD. They worked well for the anxiety, but rarely very long before I would build tolerance to them and need to increase the dosage. Once I got to what I knew was a high daily dose of them I would taper myself off. I would always use Valium to do that. I eventually got tired of that cycle and tried an SSRI antidepressant (I've been on several of them as well) and they always worked well for a long time before they "pooped out", at which time I would switch to another one. SSRI's work well for OCD as well, so I'm killing two birds with one stone.

    Re: Klonopin taper

I have used all the main stream benzos, Lorazepam, Xanax, Klonopin, Valium and Temazepam. I always started out at the lowest dose for that particular benzo, but always had to increase to much higher doses within a few weeks. I loved them and still do, but I know now that they are not the answer for a life long treatment for anxiety. I still keep a script of 1 mg Lorazepam on hand, but 30 pills will last me at least 6 months.

As far as SSRIís, I have been on Zoloft, Lexapro, Celexa, Luvox, and now currently Paxil. I feel like Zoloft did the most good for me, but I was on a rather high dose for years and thought is wise to switch to another to see if it would work at a lower dose. Also, when you start moving into the high range of an SSRI, you really start to notice the bad side effects.

    Re: Klonopin taper

well, I have been tapering for a month now and making little progress. I have been taking 1/2 of a .5mg in the morning and 14/ of a .5mg at night. Some days I have had to take the whole .5mg. Like today, I took .5mg before I left for work.

So now I have to try not to take any until tomorrow.

This is harder than I thought.
