3 months of complete sinus blockage???

    Help please!

I have had this ongoing chronic sinus infection for at least 3 months and honestly am at my wits end. I have tried homeopathic remedies, acupuncture, nasal irrigation, and antibiotics. Nothing seems to help. The problem is that I'm so blocked that nothing comes out - it's not that I'm sniffing constantly, but I have this horrible sinus pressure in my head, around my eyes, in my nose, and my cheeks. My teeth hurt or are numb and my ears are blocked sometimes. I've also experienced chronic dizziness when it's been at its worst. I really need to get this thing solved, I'm a college student and it's effecting my concentration in really terrible ways, but I honestly don't know what's wrong - I have never had something like this before.

    Please, any suggestions????

    Thanks, Lana

Just because you feel pressure doesn't mean there is mucus in your sinus cavities. Can you not blow anything out even when taking a hot shower and steaming your sinuses? If you can, then there is still infection. if not, it my be sinusitis or a rebound from using sinus sprays - like Afrin. Are you using them?

Did anything change in your life or environment prior to when your sinus misery started, around 3 months ago?

I have learned that, avoiding indoor allergens and irritants, and taking proper steps to minimize outdoor allergens and irritants can go a long way towards reducing Asthma and Sinus problems.

I actually can't blow anything out, even after a hot shower. Sometimes something comes out when its cold outside, but besides that nothing really. Some post nasal drip though.

About the sinus sprays, I was misdiagnosed with an allergy to mold by a nurse practitioner at my student health center and she gave me flonase. I didn't really see a difference, and used it for about a week, until I started getting side effects. I'm pretty sure that's what has caused the blockage, because I've never really used nasal sprays before and I'm pretty sure that my lightheadedness and fatigue I was feeling when diagnosed w/ the allergy was from an iron deficiency. In this case, do you think that the spray caused this problem? And what do you mean by "rebound"? Thank you so much for your input!

Some sprays after a few days can cause the sinus tissue to swell and make you feel blocked. If you aren't getting any drainage after a hot shower, you don't have much mucus in the sinus cavities. Have you tried a neti pot or sinus rinse such as Neilmed? I strongly suggest you do that and see if it helps after a few days. Ditch any other sprays you may be using. Only use a saline one as it will have no such side effects.
You may even need a round of steroids but I'd try the rinse first as it doesn;t require a prescrption and you can buy at WalMart and most other drug stores.

Well I haven't used the spray since 3 months ago...since then I've tried nasal irrigation, acupuncture, homeopathy, chinese medicine, and over the counter antihistimines. I don't think its an allergy though, because the only thing it could be is mold and I've lived in my apartment since september and it only started in January. I'm trying to see an ears, nose, throat specialist but that will take weeks (i live in a city).

Does it seem normal that this is just not going away????

Yes, it does, sorry to say. Could just be sinusitis which is hard to deal with. I have it every winter because my sinuses do not like having the heat on. And the pollen has been so awful here this spring that I've been eating zyrtec like candy. You may need a round of steroids.

Here in the southeast, the pine pollen has been really bad for a few months now. It's still on surfaces, and has caused havoc with my sinuses.

I actually went to an ENT yesterday (I was really lucky to get in), and they told me that I just have a really bad sinus infection and confirmed I have no symptoms of allergies. Right now I'm on ciprofloxacin for 2 weeks, and scheduled for a CT scan next week. Hopefully this will all go away soon and I won't having any bad reactions to the antibiotics.

Thanks to all for the help and advice!!!
