Burned marks left from glycolic acid peels

I'm really depressed about this. I went to have my fourth glycolic acid treatment on Wednesday and woke up yesterday morning with flat, red bad marks around my face. They look burned. Like rashes or blemishes but ten times worse. For those who experienced like this after having glycolic peels for their face. PLEASE help!

you should call your doctor, or whoever did the peel. It might just be part of the peeling process, if you had a very strong peel.

I can relate. I also had a glycolic acid peel done on Thursday. It is my second one. Around my chin there is slight scabbing which concerned me but then I remembered that I had that problem with my first one. I think it is just part of the healing process. What strength was your peel? Mine was 70%.

what percentage of peel did you have, and how long was it left on for? it doesn't sound like anything serious, but you might want to call the office of the place you had it done at and check with them about it.

one peel i had caused my nose to blister and peel a good bit and it stayed knd of red for a few days. eventually though, it faded and healed normally. i suspect yours will do the same. just keep it moisturized.

I recall that my doctor told me the day after the peel the skin will look darker as if burned but it will then start to peel off in the following days, it is just the dead skin, but it will peel off in a few days.

Re: Burned marks left from glycolic acid peels

Thanks for all the responds. It was a 70% glycolic I had. I called the office where I had it and they said it's part of the peeling process. My face is getting back into normal. Unfortunately, I have a new problem now. Due to my stupidity I furiously scrubbed the burned marks and it left a big wound on my upper right cheek. It's ugly and red. I scraped off my skin. I ruined my own skin. This is all my fault.

Should I still get glycolic peels even though I have a scraped skin? The wound will eventually heal and become a scar, right? And glycolic peels can minimize not just acne scars but ALL kinds of scars, right? Please respond. Thanks in advance.

    I'm so stupid. <IMG SRC="http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/frown.gif">

    one uses peels,subscision,dermabrasion.
the other uses laser mild peels subscision. which doctor would be better for choices. i have wrinkles and some mild acne scarring on my forehead and cystic pits on my upper cheeks and around my mouth. thanx for replys

Re: Burned marks left from glycolic acid peels

johnny, how big is this mark? i'm unsure of how your skin will react. once, i scraped off some of my skin after a peel before it was ready to come off, and it left the area kind of red for about 5 days or so. yours sounds worse, but i'm not sure if it'll scar or not since i'm unsure of how much you scrubbed and so forth. it very well may not. when's your next peel? you may find it's gone by then, and if not, you may find that the next peel will help with it. let me know if there's anything else i can help you with.

Re: Burned marks left from glycolic acid peels

    Hi there Ryan,

My face is so much better since the burns are completely gone. The wounds I'm talking about from scrubbing are flat and pinkish red. It doesn't hurt when I touch them and they're starting to fade (but still very obvious and look bad).

From the looks of it, it's not really serious but I'm worried it's gonna stink like hell if I get my fifth glycolic treatment next Thursday.

Do you think it will leave a scar? Will the glycolic acid make them disappear?

    Thanks! <IMG SRC="http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif">

it doesn't sound much like scar material, though it'll probably stay pinkish for a week or so. the glycolic peel should take care of it though.

let me ask you though, how long do you wait in between 70% peels, and, where do you get them done at? mind telling me how much they cost as well? i'm just curious.

Re: Burned marks left from glycolic acid peels

Ryan, I get my glycolic treatments in a acne clinic here. They cost about $70 Canadian per treatment. I know the price is really low. But they work great and the service is very reliable.

By the way, are you still getting glycolic peels this days? How about microdermabrasion?

Re: Burned marks left from glycolic acid peels

$70 canadian sounds about right. i'm still with the peels. my next one isn't for about 3 weeks though, which is about what i wait in between 70% peels.

i had microdermabrasion before these peels. not sure if you knew that or not, though i've mentioned it before on the boards. anything you want to ask about it in particular or something? not really sure here you were going with your question.

is your face any better now where you had the burn mark at?

Re: Burned marks left from glycolic acid peels

The area where the burned mark used to be at turned into a brown discoloration. It's still obvious but the appearance is improving. I think it's the 12% glycolic and skin tone balancer I used at home that helps. I'm also using tretinoin cream.

Ryan, just wondering. Do you used at home skin products for your scars? How about anti-biotics? Do you still get active acne?

Re: Burned marks left from glycolic acid peels

well... i use a cream with 10% glycolic acid in it, and a facial sponge to kind of scrub my face with. that helps with scarring a little, but moreso with acne as it's a great exfoliator. i also use a clay mask a couple times usually every week. i also use tea tree oil sometimes, and evey other day i wash my face in the middle of the day with a facial cleansing cloth. sounds like a lot, but, it's not an everyday thing. that'd be too irritating, and probably counterproductive.

i don't really have any acne anymore, though every once in awhile i'll beak out some. i think the regimen i'm doing plus the peels have done the trick. i say that now though, and a break-out is probably around the corner for me. oh well.

no, i'm not on any antibiotics, though i've been on diferent ones bfore which did little to nothing. what product are you using that has 12% glycolic acid in it?
