Re: For the ladies w/hormonal acne...

sunshin919, did you experience bloating or decreasing libido while on the pill? And did the pill decrease the oiliness of your face? I'm thinking of going on a BCP, and I'm looking for one that:
1) Clears up oily skin, and also (preferably) acne
2) Has the least side effects
3) Increases the size of my chest
4) Doesn't cause me to gain weight.

Any suggestions, anyone?? Thanks.

I think that if there were such a pill that could truly increase chest size without causing weight gain, then everyone would be on it.

As for me, Yasmin has had the least negative side effects of any BCP that I've tried.

I agree with TimDream. Yasmin had increased my bust size and I have not really gained any weight. I have noticed a decrease in oil production but my face must still be going through some transition because I am still breaking out...HOWEVER, the breakouts are slowly but surely dwindling away. Maybe in a couple months there won't be any!

Diane 35 and Yasmin are very, very similar. Diane 35 isn't available in the US, but I don't know about Canada.

Re: For the ladies w/hormonal acne...

so i have been researching a lot about this:

does increased amounts of estrogen help decrease acne for women? i.e. when i am not on the pill and have sex i swear my skin looks better- coincidence or due to presence of increased levels of estrogen?

also do most women with hormonal acne have the classic "apple shape" body (smaller chest, bigger hips and waist)? because i have this... hmmm....

anyone?

you're right about the estrogen. that's why pills like yasmin and diane 35 are so effective for acne. and no, it's not a coincidence that your skin looks better when you're having sex. it's the extra estrogen that your body is producing.

i have hormonal acne but i dont have the apple shaped body. i'm petite, with big boobs, small waist, and i do have hips and an a$$ but not excessive amounts of either. i guess hourglass is the best way to describe it. i dont think hormones have much to do with body shape.

Re: For the ladies w/hormonal acne...

I am also hourglass shaped and had mild hormonal acne. Diane 35 has worked very effectively for me. It is sold in the UK and Canada (by prescription) but not the states. It has yet to be approved in the States. Yasmin is sold there though and is very similar although the anti-androgenetic properties are different.
21 I would definitely recommend you see a endrocrinologist for hormone level testing. If you are suffering from a hormone inbalance then accutane will not work as effectively, although it will still serve to lessen oil production. Hirstuism is a definite sign of too much testosterone production. Sometimes it is mild and many women have this, but other times it can be caused by ovarian cysts etc. Natural hormone balancers such as Vitex (sold in healthfood stores and online I believe) also can help to regulate hormone levels, and Saw Palmetto (also in healthfood stores) also has anti-androgenetic properties.

Re: For the ladies w/hormonal acne...

I think instead of making guesses, anyone suffering from the symptoms mentioned above needs to seek advice from a doctor. The lady at my local GNC store asked me to take Phytoestrogen to "balance hormones", which did almost nothing for me. But I am glad I did meet my ob/gyn. After all the tests were done, I was glad I didn't have to sit and home and wonder "Could this be amenhorrea?" "Could it be PCOS?" " What'll I do if I have cysts in my ovaries? ( I had a friend who had to be operated on at 19, because she had enlarged ovarian cysts because she didn't seek medical attention on time)" "Will I become infertile?" and so on...I think the issue here is more serious than acne.

Re: For the ladies w/hormonal acne...

I have never had really terrible skin until the past while. I do have polysistic ovaries, with the irregular periods etc.
My skin has been terrible lately, so my doctor put me on diane 35 and mitocycline (sp.) I think that is what it's called anyway.
Just wanted to know if anyone has had an initial break out while on this and how long it will last.
I have been taking these pills for a month now, and I am still breaking out-painful, large pimples that won't go away, and when they finally do- I am left with a huge red mark.
Can anyone shed some light on my situation?
Also, has anyone had any weight gain while on diane 35?
Thanks
Kadree

Spiro is a prescription only drug.

Diane 35: I have been on it for 9 months. I saw improvement within the first month, but it took about 3 before I really was clear. I had no initial breakout and have not gained weight apart from an increase in my bust size (1 cup or less).

21withacne,
The ob/gyn diagnosed it as PCOS, but thankfully I didn't delay too long, so it was not very bad. And being on Yasmin, really brought all my problems such as acne, hirsuitism, irregular periods, etc under check.
