diagnosised with AML Sept 2009

I was diagnosised with AML Sept 2009.
I had two rounds of Chemo.
Jan. 2010 I had a stem cell transplant from an anonomus donor.
It was an easy precedure, and not to be afraid. It saved my life.
I had some platlet and blood transfusion prior to transplant.
The first 3 months following transplant I was feeling extremely weak.
After 6 months, I feel wonderful, better than I have felt in the past 10 years.
Many of the symptoms I had before being dianosised with AML, muscle pains, fatigue
are gone. I have some mild GVHD symptoms but they are controlable and a small price to pay. I am very thankful for the transplant. Good Luck!

After 3 rounds of chemo, I had a Stem cell transplant. I had 3 different hospital stays,
about 30 days each. It is one year, Jan. 2010, since my transplant. The first 6 months were difficult, but now I feel as if it were a bad dream. I feel great!

im glad you're doing great... its good to see that people get through this...

we are just waiting for the call from seattle for my dad to go down and get him transplant. he was dx in may last year, had induction and 2 rounds of consolidation chemo and has been fine since august but they do want to do a stem cell transplant. they currently have a 9(they call it a 9.5) out of 10 match so im hoping that is close enough. can i ask if you had a perfect match?

My doctors use a 9 to 10 match. I was lucky and had several matches. I had a 10-10
match. I would go with what the doctors suggest. I have mild GVHD, which actually is good.

i've heard the mild GVHD is good as it attacks cancel cells. how long did it take to get your strength back? did you have very many scary moments during or after the transplant?

It is a year this January that I had my transplant. I feel wonderful, like I was never sick at all my tests results are all in the normal range.
The first 100 days after transplant, I was very very weak, (normal response) also, depressed, I was very cautious with visitors and hygiene. I did not eat out and microwaved all foods that was brought in.
