    Anemia and Anxiety

    Hello,
I have been having anemia off and on for many years. Recently I had a lot of problems with my periods being very heavy. As a result I became severely anemic. My anemia causes me anxiety due to sometimes severe heart palpitations and extreme fatigue. I had several weeks recently before I started taking my iron, where I felt horrible and didn't want to get off the couch and go anywhere. As a result, I also felt very depressed. So, if you are anemic and looking for answers as to why you feel so bad, anemia can give you so many terrible symptoms. I have also had episodes of breathlessness and dizziness along with trouble concentrating. Anemia can also cause hair loss, palesness, and constantly feeling cold and hungry. So, if you were like me and feel like you were suffering from some awful disease, it really could be anemia causing so many of those symptoms, but never try and diagnose yourself. Always go and get the proper blood work and advice from your doctor. Before i knew i was anemic, several doctors tried to give me anti-depressants to help with the anxiety and heart palps, but they didn't even bother to run any blood work on me. I truly feel that after suffering with this for a while, many anxiety and depression symptoms stem from underlying health/nutrition conditions.

    Re: Anemia and Anxiety

Thank you. I will do that. When I went to see my doc, she only tested for the basic thyroid function, I think. I always seem to have these symptoms of thyroid problems, but doctors have never found anything wrong with my thyroid. I know that some people who have this issue have trouble losing weight. My issue is that my metabolism is in high gear. I'm always hungry and I'm either feeling hyper or exhausted around my period, but I pretty much eat what I want and keep losing it. So, either that's the anxiety or maybe my thyroid. Anyway, thank you for the advice.
