Hope everybodys having a better day!! I've been having a rough couple days but I keep telling myself duh you just had neck surgery!! I think I've been moving my neck around too much. Starting yesterday my neck on the front & back is hurting like I've atrained it. Haven't picked up on anything but I don't think we realize how much we turn & look up & down !! My ns only wanted me to wear my collar for 2 weeks & only when walking around. I was glad cause I hated it but I'm thinking I might go back to wearing it for e few days to see if it helps! I also started yesterday having the tingling & twitching in my hands causing me to drop things. Suppose this is normal too??? Lol I smite y'all for trying not to take meds & going back to work!! I've been taking some pain med for a ling time( after lumbar fusion that I never got a lot of relief & now have a couple more disc that need to be fixed. I went back to work after that but couldn't keep it up because of the pain so I went on disability. I do keep my grandkids (3&4) but theyve been staying with their other grandmother for now. I've started keeping them a couple of days right now & I'm worn out at the of the day! Good luck to y'all!

I cheated last night. I have to wear the collar but the back of my neck still had some major spasms so I took that collar and used my shoulder and neck heating pad and the pain went away.

Re: 2 Level ACDF finally done, now what???

Hi all. I haven't been on here in a while. I also had the surgery about a month ago and I am having the same symptoms you all are having. I teach so I took the semester off. I am not bored, just the opposite, there are so many things I want to do and can't do. I haven't been off of work in the winter since I can't remember when. And a great winter too in WI this year, MN too. I'd love to keep in touch with you all and not have to post on here all the time if you don't mind me joining the group. This message board has been a lifesaver for me. 4 days after surgery when I thought I was dying the messages of support I received saved me. My ns office did not, neither to my pcp. It's nice to talk to people who are feeling it and not people who tell me how I should feel when they have no idea.

Oh my God I'm rambling. I just have so much to say to folks who understand.
Here's my biggest concern. I still have a lot of pain in my neck and shoulders. I know some of it is from the site that was fused. BUT...I still have a C5-6 disc protrusion with moderate spinal canal stenosis and bilateral neuroforaminal stenosis with an osteophyte complex. My NS wanted to fix it with the surgery, but the insurance company said they would not pay for it. He even called them and did a peer to peer review of the MRI, which he had amended because the radiologist misread it. So if I heal from one surgery and in four months(ish) if I still have pain, are they going to have to open me up again? It's a huge worry because I hated the surgery, the hospital stay was horrible, and post op the doctors have been downright rude. I understand why some of you think the NS office thinks you are crazy. My husband called them 1 week post op and had a heart to heart with the NS assistant. I don't know what he said, but they started treating me a lot better after that.

Keep on improving everyone. Good job on the non-smoking. I know that is important and I still smoke....Don't judge me, ahhhh. I must quit. I have cut back to 3 a day and plan to go to 2 tomorrow. That's been working out so far, but I'm crabby sometimes due to that I think.

Re: 2 Level ACDF finally done, now what???

Glad you posted to kabatron so we can all stay in touch! I will be 6 weeks post op Tuesday & things are still kinda of rough so the ones after me don't get discouraged yet! My incision (which has been healed since 2nd week after surgery) got infected last thursday- so I said well I just need some anti biotics. So my husband & my dad insisted my ns( which is 3 hours away from where I live) I call the nurse & ask her to call me in some antibiotics & she said oh no you have to be seen today or tmrw! I'm like I'm 3 hours away & idk if I have a ride! No matter so I ask her can I see my pm doctor which is a lot closer , she said call him right now & ask him if he'll see you. I call & he said no he didn't want to take a chance cause if it was infected down in my neck , he would rather the surgeon see it. So anyway my husband took me to Houston the next day & they put me on string antibiotics & medicine to put on it 3x day. But my husband & I spent the night in a hotel so got some much needed quality time so it turned out ok! Then yesterday we get home & the house has just been neglected, so I did dishes & general cleaning for a few hours & all of a sudden I got nauseated & felt like I was gonna pass out!! Went & laid down & my arms went crazy with those " electric shocks" from my neck through my hands! Never felt anything like that! Idk this surgery seems to have kicked my butt this time. Course when I had my lumbar surgery I was only 36! I expected the muscle aches & spasms from my neck, but it still scares me that I get the burning in the same place on my neck that I did before surgery! Maybe it comes from I didn't get a lot of relief from the lumbar! Just gotta have faith! I'm putting all y'all on my friends list so we can stay in touch. Hope everybody's having a better day than yesterday

Re: 2 Level ACDF finally done, now what???

How did it get infected? That's kind of scary. How are you doing now?

My incision looks great. I feel great. I have some muscle spasms still and I'm in this collar but all in all I can't complain.

I'm six weeks post op this Wednesday. I had my second post op xray which was kind of funny. When I went in the techs were very nice but not too bright. The woman asked me what brings me in today even though she has all the orders from the doctor(I guess they want to make sure they have the right patient-they asked me that before surgery too-sometimes I'm tempted to say "I don't know, I just got a phone call from a scheduler saying my doctor had scheduled for some procedure")I told her I had to get an xray of my neck because I had a 2 level acdf. She asks what is that. I told her. Then the male tech who brought me back looks at what the other tech wrote and asks if I am in any pain. I just looked at him and said no. He said you're not in any pain and I said no, why are your surprised. That was why I had the surgery, Oh, you had surgery and was like, God help me. I said the doctor wanted to see how the hardware was doing.

Then this older gentleman walks in and I hear them talking to him. I think he was a radiologist. The girl said I had an anterior cervical and the new guy says she had an acdf. I chimed in and told him I had a 2 level acdf at levels c4-5 and c5-6. They looked at the xray, something else was said that I didn't hear and he asked me who my doctor was and if he said it was okay to take the collar off. I said no but asked if he wanted me to and he said no. I don't know what else was said but he sort of yelled to them in a joking way-THE FACT THAT SHE IS WEARING A COLLAR SHOULD HAVE TOLD YOU SHE HAD SURGERY! I lMAO when he said that. Then they get ready to take the second xray-the computer won't work so after a few tries they go and get the older guy. He comes over, looks at the machine and says, why is she sitting down. The girl tech said it was because my leg hurt and I started laughing and told him I had a torn meniscus. He asked me a few more questions on which levels I had done-I guess I confused him so he left for some reason. It ran pretty smoothly from then on-he came back with some papers before they were going to redo the xray where you hold your mouth open. The girl tech says we are done. I walked out and told the radiologist he had a wonderful sense of humor and he said thanks, so do you!

I see my NS PA for my 6 week post up tomorrow. I'm going to find put when I can have the surgery for the torn meniscus because it's starting to lock and catch on me again. I'm pretty sure she said 8 weeks from the surgery but I'm going to wait until I am out of the collar in case I have to wear a cast after surgery(which I totally don't look forward to because i HATE having to use crutches) So that means I'll be calling my orthopedic surgeon on Wednesday to discuss ANOTHER surgery.

Re: 2 Level ACDF finally done, now what???

I'm not sure why my neck got infected so long after my surgery. I guess there was a small area like a pinprick hole on one side of my incision, I noticed it was kind of stinging one day, so I put neosporin on it but the next day when I went to put neosporin on it, there's like a knot on one end of incision & a little bit of puss coming from that small pinprick area. My ns said it couldve been from the dissolvable stitches one got infected? Anyway he said said he put me on strong abx & should lookbetter in a few days. I don't think it's any worse, not sure if it's better yet. That's hilarious all that stuff that happened when you had your x-rays! Idk why but I don't have to see my ns( except for the infection ) until April at which time he will do c- rays & another MRI to see what's going on with the chairi malformation. Can't believe your gonna have knee surgery too! Geez it seems like you have one surgery & then it never stops! That's like ns said when I come back in April he wants to discuss taking the hardware out of my lower back- because I have so much pain with it still- but I just don't know if I can handle another surgery & also I keep thinking what if that's not the problem? Oh well first things first!
