| Cholesterol levels scary?
My 36 year old son just had some labs. They concern me and I'm not sure how concerned I should be. There are also some results that could be liver related or heart related - not sure which.
Total Cholesterol 315
Triglycerides 401
Non HDL Cholesterol 250
Direct LDL 209
Glucose 118
Sodium 133 L
Billirubin, Total 61 H
AST 61 H
ALT 107 H
LD 250 H
GGT 383 H
Are these high alert labs and what recommendations might there be?

Not knowing the ranges for this particular labs and so using what I am familiar with you are looking at high cholesterol numbers, diabetes, and liver/pancreas/gallbladder issues. He needs to get right with his lifestyle ASAP>

My comments stand. He needs to see his physician right away and get on meds, change his diet and work on his lifestyle (exercise, healthy living, etc).

Thanks! fHe just got some medical assistance - he's been without any insurance or money to go to dr or get prescriptions. But so far, no one seems very concerned about his levels. But they did give him some prescriptions. He and his wife are a bit in denial - not sure how to break through. He has Lyme & Pancreatitis so he feels bad most of the time. That the stress and depression over being ill, seems to have him in a hole. He gets second hand smoke from his wife (but she smokes outdoors, so they aren't worried about that.) She drinks, and he has 2 or 3 glasses of wine a week with her. They eat whole grains, and feel that they eat healthy. Between little money, and stress they are eating some sweets they never ate before and lots of pasta, etc. My son is in pain all the time, so he is not getting the exercise he always got in the past.
I'm concerned about the last 8 months with no prescriptions for cholesterol or high blood pressure - which has been averaging around 155/110. Heart rate has gotten as high as 178. His HDL is good - yay! I have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high triglyceride. My parents have high cholesterol and high blood pressure. But none of ours is serious. So that's a good thing in his risk factor. I'm praying that a doctor will get ahold of him and cause him to wake up and realize the danger he is in. (At least as I see it.)
Thanks again for your input.

He's about 6'. Not sure what he weighs. His wife says he needs to lose about 45 ponds, He used to be thin, so he has put on a bit of weight in the last two years.

Hi - my levels are quoted to me as 6.3 etc so I don't know the levels you've quoted. But surely when you received your scores for your son, your doctor discussed it all with you? I'd go back to my doctor and discuss this with them and not wait.

But for those who believe that statins are the spawn of Satan, then there is little else that works but a vegan diet with less than 10% of calories coming from fats (Ornish Diet.)

It's important to make sure we are first doing all we can.
I had labs similar to this and found out I was allergic to gluten.
I don't drink.
I made a severe life change. I avoided gluten and eat mainly a vegetarian diet after eating too much meat which isn't too good for the liver and digestion.
Green veggies and fruits are super healthy for the body.
Milk thistle and adding lemon to the water is also good for the liver

garlic contains enzymes that is involved in fatty acid and cholesterol synthesis. Inhibiting cholesterol is said to be one of the best use of garlic during these days. Every garlic clove can help in reducing the LDL that is also the reason why there are many experience unhealthy condition because of high cholesterol in their body.
