1 month post LASIK - Blur Vision - Doctor Gave Up

Hello, I had my LASIK Zyoptix done on 28 May 2015 and even after 1 month I can't see things clearly at all.

Before surgery I had -4.75 and -5.00 in my eyes and the doctor had said that my eyes are eligible for surgery and I won't face any problems.

I have never seen clearly, not even for 1 second after surgery. Vision has been blurry since the first day. I am taking liquid drops (4 of them) as suggest by the doctor. Sitting 3 feet away from my computer screen, I have to zoom in 175% to be able to see font clearly (1920x1080 resolution, if that matters).

The doctor checked by vision using computerized method and it said I have -0.5 power which shouldn't be the reason for blurry vision. He checked manually by making me wear glasses of different power but no use. My vision worsens if I wear glass of any power.

He did a dryness test and said everything is normal. He says that my eyes are "technically" fine and there is no issue and has no clue why I am unable to see clearly.

I feel like I have some -1 or -1.5 power but glasses of those power don't help. The doctor has asked me to see some other doctor as he has no clue what is wrong.

Note: My vision hasn't improved at all. In fact, it has worsened after 3rd week. Also, in my best case, I was able to see more clear than usual days but it was still blurry.

Sorry to hear about your situation, ryansharma. Is your vision uniformly blurry, or is it more a case of glare, halos and/or starbursts? Is it the same in each eye? The more precisely you can describe your issues the better.

As for me, I had LASIK in one eye and PRK in the other 4 years ago, and I started out with massive glare and halos (and some starbursts) in both eyes, which improved following surgery. I still have problems though. The vast majority of improvement occurred in the 3 weeks following surgery and has been slow ever since, but everyone's physiology is different.

Are you being referred to a specialist or to another LASIK surgeon? If you don't get satisfactory answers, I'd suggest a second opinion from another surgeon with as much experience and advanced diagnostic equipment as possible. For example, the Zeiss ATLAS 9000 Corneal Topography System provides a rigorous wavefront analysis of the cornea and produces an image simulation of how it thinks an eye chart appears to you. (No, I have no financial interest in this product...)

Thanks for replying. My vision is uniformly blur. I also have glare and halo issues. The doctor is saying that glare and halo issue will be solved with time. But nothing has improved since past 3 weeks. In fact, vision has deteriorated.

The doctor has advised me to see a cornea specialist as the doctor himself has no clue why I am unable to see.

Seeing a cornea specialist sounds like the best idea right now - make sure it's one who has experience with post-LASIK complications. If your vision is still getting worse I'd do it as soon as possible. Keep using the drops exactly as prescribed.

It's disheartening to realize that many doctors are at a loss when things don't go smoothly, but don't give up.

HI Ryansharma - have your eyes improved?

Your doctor sounds disgraceful in not being too worried about your blurry vision. Luckily my doctor is a cornea specialist. Obviously this may be too quick and easy a fix, but could you tear ducts be blocked? It happened to my sister in law after lasik and her vision was clear after they unblocked the tear duct.

    I hope you've improved.
