ADULT ADD STRATERRA vs ADDERALL

Hello I am new to all of this info on the computer but I am willing to try to see if it will help me at all. I am a mother of four young adult children four who have ADD two of them Tourette Syndrome also. I have been blessed by some miracle to have been very successful in raising them. I was diagnoised when they were, 15 years ago. Only one son used medication for a few short years(haldol). I have Inattentive ADD. For the first time I had ever asked my doctor to put me on medication and I do not believe he understands me. He put me on Starterra and I see that it makes me worse rather than better, I 'm feeling really very BLah, and slow. What I really think I need is a stimulant, because I need the very opposite. He said, he would rather not because it is a controled substance. How do you get it acrossed to my doctor that my brain can not focus on one thing and that it is more like muddy water, rather than clear water, that I am experiencing. I feel like there is another whole person in side of me that wants to do so much and get so much done, but in fact I go around circles.(but I am not a hyper person at all infact I am very very low key) One other thing is there a medication that will not be have sexual sideaffect, I have reached the age of being an empty nester, and have a wonderful time with our new life. I do not want anything to spoil it. I would like to be able to go back to school , but I want something to help me concentrate please help! MUDDYWATERS

Just as an FYI - just because Strattera is a non-stimulant medication, it doesn't mean it is for calming down hyperactivity. (In fact Strattera is more effective at increasing focus and improving self-management/combatting executive dysfunction than at curbing hyperactivity)

Some people however just don't do well on it, so by all means give stimulants a try if you feel you can't cope without medication!
