    Should dentures initially hurt?

My mother just got dentures. She said they hurt.

The dentist said she will need to get used to it. Of course if he did something wrong he will not admit it. It is all subjective. He can say what he wants.

What are other people experiences with initially getting dentures?

New Dentures, like new braces or even Invisalign always hurt..it takes some time to get used to them. My husband got dentures 2 years ago and the first week he complained constantly... all the sudden he stopped.

Of course, Dentures can be adjusted... if after a week they dont start feeling better, she should go back to whoever made them and let them make sure they are fitting properly and do any adjustments.

One thing that helps pain is to steep a regular tea bag in hot water, squeeze out the tea and let the bag cool to where it is comfortable to touch; have you mom bite down on the teabag! The tanic acid in tea is a natural novacaine and this can really help with pain. Good luck!

Dentures often require a number of visits for adjustments. Its just part of the process. My mum went to the dentist so often for hers as a younger woman, I had to become an adult before I realized people actually bought toothbrushes, since the dentist was always giving her his complementary stuff.
