    Is Zantac safer/better than nexium

    Hi,
I am trying to wean off nexium 10 mg everyday but having some tough time. Mean while i thought i will switch to zantac 75mg twice a day rather than taking nexium 10mg once a day(so that i can slowly taper that off too)

my question is, is 75mg zantac twice a day worse/better than 10mg nexium once a day everyday?

Re: Is Zantac safer/better than nexium

Nexium is a PPI, where as Zantac is a H2 histamine blocker. Both do similar things... PPIs reduce acid in the stomach; whereas Zantac blocks the production of acid and can help heal ulcers caused by acid erosion.

There is some discussion that long term use of PPIs can be dangerous; but there is both good and bad facts on this- Zantac meanwhile can help cure damage already done.

Which one is better? It depends on what your doctor is trying to achieve. I hope this helps alittle.
