    Sinus Infection/Dizziness?

    Hey all,

I am a 21 year old male and I have some questions about a problem I've been having for almost two and a half weeks now. The first night I noticed a problem, it started with dizziness. Not vertigo because the room was never spinning, but I felt light headed and off balance and almost as if I had a floating feeling. Two days later I'm KO'd with 12 hours of vomiting, and ever since I've had pressure in my sinuses and head and fullness in my ears (always pressure when I blow my nose or try to pop my ears as if I've been on an airplane), and on and off lightheadedness/dizziness.

I have been to two primary care doctors who think I have a sinus infection. First one prescribed me penicillin which did not work, and the second gave my azithromycin which I am on day two with no real improvement (probably impatient). I'm also taking Nasonex for my allergies. When I went to the doctor yesterday my temp was 99.7 which would probably point to an infection, but I find it odd that I have minimal congestion and hardly any discharge which is the hallmark a sinus infection. A few days ago there was slight discharge that was off colored and tinged with blood, but generally if there is any it is clear but a bit thick.

The second doctor told me to wait until next week and call back if I'm not better, so I guess my question is - has anyone had something similar where the main problems were just pressure and dizziness/ear issues rather than congestion and discharge? If I'm not better, I also want to know what my next step should be, whether it be push for a referral to an ENT or steroids or something.

    Thanks for the help!

It sounds like a virus infection, I would really question if anything to do with sinuses. Vomiting would be very unusual for sinus infection.
Did you have a blood test? That would be the very first thing to check.
Any improvement at all? if it's a virus normally it should pass within 2-3 weeks without any meds. But if you not getting any better you definitely have to get yourself check out, they might give you different antibiotics.

Thanks for the reply! Went to an ENT today and she found pus draining down the back of my throat, so I got cefuroxime and a nasal irrigation bottle which will hopefully clear it up. She said penicillin and the z-pack were pretty pointless in the first place.

Just glad to know that there's a physical sign of an infection so my mind can rest easier now.

Did thus ever resolve? If so with what medication and time? I'm on week 7 of something very similar
