Has anyone noticed link btw chronic sinusitis and thyroid problems?

    Hi all

I wonder if any chronic sinusitis sufferer has known thyroid problems (hypothyroidism, hashimoto) and takes thyroid medication and how it influences their nasal congestion/sinusitis situation?

I suspect I might be hypothyroid, although my TSH is in range (2.3) and that caused my sinus congestion/swelling that didnt go away in spite of antibiotics and many alternative treatments.

    Dear jjjohanna,

Are you taking thyroid med? If so, what kind?

I have treated hypothyroidism and also have chronic sinus congestion. Sinus congestion usually is from allergies, colds, flu or air borne irritants. I have been low thyroid for many years and I have never noticed that thyroid med made any difference whatsoever in my sinus issues. The sinus issues seem more related to dry cold or dry warm air or the time of year, when certain plants and trees are pollinating. What helps me is to use a humidifier in my bedroom at night.

I was told to take any other other medication an hour or two apart from when taking thyroid med in order to avoid absorption problems. In my opinion they really are two separate issues, though sinusitis medication really can interfere with thyroid med absorption. I don't believe that thyroid issues are directly related to nasal congestion or sinusitis.

I would ask for the Free T3 and Free T4 tests. The 2.3 TSH does look good as far as range goes, but TSH is too general of a test to prove whether or not one is truly hypo or hyperthyroid. Besides sinus congestion, what other symptoms have you been having or still have?

    Hugs,
