even if CT scan shows no sinus cavity problems, can dizziness be caused by allergies??

I am suffering from being off balance and having a pulsing/swooshing in my ears/head frequently. I am on zyrtec d, singulair, a water pill (lasix), and take guafinessin and sudafed off and on when I am having a "spell." i also saw where one user said Chlrotram.....(can't spell it) helped him. so i am trying that now too. My question is this, if my sinus cavities are "clear" according to the CT scan, does this mean my spells are from something non-allergy related or can allergies still cause problems with balance that do not show up in the actual sinus cavities themselves?? i am also about 2 months into allergy shots bc i am allergic to EVERYTHING (trees, grass, dogs, cats, horse hair,mold,dust.. just to name the few that i know of). anyway, the ENT is now sending me to a Neurologist....what will he do/ what can he look into? what if he doesn't find anything? i am just scared that i will keep having this problem and bc there isn't medical evidence of it so far, that no one will do anything about it. i have posted before and i soooo appreciate all the advice and support! i am so grateful i found this board!! thanks for any answers or suggestions....i need all the info i can get!! thanks for reading and GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

I would say yes - You could still be dizzy from allergies without anything showing on the CAT scan. I think it's a good idea to go to a specialist though. That way you can start ruling out certain issues. Are your ears OK? Sometimes the ear can cause dizzyness too.
I had similar symptoms, but clearly had a sinus infection (CAT scan) I am STILL on antibiotics and will be for a total of 6 weeks. I too take singalair but could not take Allegra as it made me dizzy!
Hang in there - This will pass. It just takes awhile.

First off, quit all medications for a week. The combination of Sudafed, etc. may be causing dizziness and lightheadedness. It does that to me.

Did the ENT check your ears? Labrynthitis and Vestibular Neuritis can cause dizziness. One is an infection, and the other is nerve inflammation within the inner ear. It cannot be seen by a simple ear checkup.

Another possiblity is Eustachian Tube Disfunction (ETD).

Don't worry, none of this stuff is really serious.

The other question to ask the ENT is, "is there soft tissue swelling within the sinus cavities?" Just because no bacteria is present, doesn't mean there is no inflammation. I get inflammation regardless, but I control it through sinus irrigation, Astelin, and controlling my allergies.

Re: even if CT scan shows no sinus cavity problems, can dizziness be caused by allergies??

I am about 3 months into allergy shots and have had episodes of dizziness and lightheadedness. I think allergy shots are helping tremendously, but it takes time. Do your ears pop? Mine pop constantly and I have this feeling in my neck that everything is huge. I have a feeling it has something to do with my ears, b/c I can feel pressure all the way from my ears down to my throat.

Before I got tested for allergies, I saw an ENT. I was having severe, severe sinus headaches. I'm talking I wanted to bang my face into a wall. So I had a cat scan and nothing showed up. He said my sinus cavities looked a little rough, but did not see anything that would cause me such pain in my face and behind my eyes. I have since found out that these headaches were indirectly caused by allergies. I do not think cat scan would show this unless you had something seriously wrong with your sinuses, i.e. bad structure, polyps, etc. i"m no dr. though, but just my experience.

Re: even if CT scan shows no sinus cavity problems, can dizziness be caused by allergies??

I have known 2 people with symptoms similar to yours that turned out to be non-allergy. What the dizziness was due to was this itty bitty stone in the ear being dislodge due to one reason or another. There is a technical term for it but I don't know what. Basically the itty bitty stone floats around in the ear, causing the dizziness, etc. This happened to my husband after he was hit in the head by a baseball. Sometimes the "floater" heals all by itself. (that's what happened to him). My husband was diagnosed at urgent care and they did do a basic level neuro exam as part of the exam. So, it's a good idea to go to the neurologist.

I am the queen of clear CT exams and still having tons of sinus trouble, all allergy related. Dizziness has never been a symptom of mine. I am glad the ENT referred you to a neurologist.

I hope you find out what's causing these symptoms so that you can get rid of them!

I am constantly dizzy and I believe it is from my sinus's/allergies. It is worse on high allergy days. I got tested for allergins and now am on allergy shots. They said in 3 months I should see improvement, but if I don't I am plan on seeing an expert to see about this dizziness more in depth. I've had the CTscans and the MRI's and nothing is neurologic, it is all sinus's.

Most dizziness is cause my inflamtion of the sinus's cavities. I know mine are constantly inflamed as I feel pressure in my nose and sinus's when I am more dizzy. Keep irigating, take your allergy shots and hopefully it will get better for you.

Hi, I just wanted to reply to you, because I know exactley what you are going through. I have been through it all with my dizziness. I have been diagnosed from anxiety to sinus infection. I recently had my home tested for mold, and it turned out, that I had 6 different types of mold. That is what I am guessing has been causing my dizziness, because i feel that pressure behind my nose, and my head id always pulsing, especially at night when I am in bed. I have yet to move out, but I hope that this is it. I have also been tested for an inner ear disorder, and that test was normal. The condition described by the other poster is called BPPV Benign Positional something Vertigo. That is when a calcium crystal is disloged from the inner ear, and causes vertigo. That is easily treated. Do you have trouble reading also?

I used to get allergy shots every week and even if they gave me tiny doses by the time I would come home and be nutty dissy, feel like I am walking on clouds. I say it is. Everyone reacts differently to allergies.
