Does anyone ever experience this with sinus infections?

I know this sounds weird, but the other day I was talking with an aquaintance at the grocery store who told me she has had the same thing happen to her. I am just curious as to how common this may be. I had never heard of this before it affected me.

Anyway, several years ago I had a root canal on one of my teeth. Several years later it started hurting shortly after a cold. I was having other sinus symtoms, but was sure it was also my tooth acting up. I went to the dentist who checked my bite. It was fine. He sent me to a gum specialist who did x-rays and again, checked my bite. Nothing at all was found. He wanted to do $2000 worth of exploratory surgery so I just told him I would call back. It was definately abcessed tooth type of pain though and I was miserable. I went to the doctor. She put me on an antibiotic for the sinus infection (amoxicilin) and within two days the tooth was better. Since then almost everytime I get a sinus infection (about once or twice a year) that same tooth begins to hurt. As soon as I start taking antibiotics it gets better. It doesn't hurt otherwise.

Has anyone else ever had this happen or know of anyone who did? I would be really interested in knowing if I am a rare case.

    Thanks!

    Nancy

When I begin a sinus infection my face feels as though I have been punched by someone. Along with this my teeth hurt as though I have a toothache. After I begin the antibiotics the pain goes away. The roots of your teeth, especially on the top go up into the area where the sinuses are located.

Yes, everytime I get a bad sinus infection my teeth hurt bady. My ENT told me that this is normal and that there is nothing wrong with the teeth, it just means the infection is hurting so bad it has spread into the gums. Yucky!

Not exactly. My biggest problem... and i'm not too sure what can be done... is that I sleep with my mouth open. I'm going to be buying a new mattress set in spring, but I think it's b/c i'm really allergic to dust & my nose swells completely shut so I can't breathe through it. My dentist thinks this is what has rotted my teeth. And it cost me 7k worth of dental work to try to salvage my teeth recently, that wasn't covered by the insurance. And the worst part.. i'm 18 & dentures don't look so far away. My teeth are breaking off and rotting in my sleep... i've woken up with a piece missing from time to time. I have had problems with infections going into my teeth though from my throat. Since the throat is connected with the nose, I could see the connection between sinus infections going into the mouth. well I hope you find relief soon

Well, I am certainly glad to know my problem is not quite as rare as I thought it was! My tooth actually seems to abcess when I get a sinus infection, then gets better with antibiotics. I guess its more common than I thought. Thanks for your responses.
