    Sinus Infection

Well I have been diagnosed with a sinus infection. I have all the symptoms except nasal drainage, although the week before the pressure and headaches started I couldnt stop blowing my nose. I have been on antibiotics for 5 days and no change(not sure how long it will take). What should I to make my sinuses clear out and is that common at all to be all stuffed up with no mucus coming out?
    Thanks for replies

    Re: Sinus Infection

Well it depends.. what anti-biotic are you on?
Are you also taking a decongestant and using a saline nasal spray (simply saline is my preference)?
Are you using ponaris nasal oil?

The best treatment I had success with when I was getting sinus infections 9 months of the year was as follows:

Anti-biotic: Cephalosporin class (Best dark cavity infection fighter), Cillans (Second), fluoroquinolones (3), E-Mycins(4).
Anti-Histamine: PRN - zyrtec (if allergy prone and an active allergy season for you)
    Decongestant: PRN - Dynex bidaily
    OTC Assistance:
    1) Simply Saline Nasal spray - use unlimited.. 4x daily seemed to be my sweet spot.
    2) Ponaris Nasal Oil - 2x daily - night before bed and morning upon waking.

Sinus infections can be brought on by viruses, allergic rhinitus, and fungal infections. If the infection is not coming out and you are currently taking a decongest there are two main things to look into:
    1) The infection is bacterial, just resistant to the anti-biotic given (anti-biotic resistant sinus infections can take up to a month or two to kill on anti-biotics that will rip your digestive track a new one.)
    2) The infection is fungal in origin and will not respond to the anti-biotics.

If you are not on a decongestant, start immediately. Get a script and a refill on your anti-biotics. Your anti-biotics can not do it alone it is a team player. Also start the Ponaris and saline sinus rinses and application. If you are on a decongest and have not had a response after 5 days.. well you should have felt a difference with in the first 48 hours. Go to an ENT or back to your GP and get the muck in your head cultured so they know what they are treating.

Best of luck to you. I will keep an out if you have more questions.
If we learn by our mistakes, I am working on one hell of an education.
