    Is this really sinusitis?Please help!!

    Hi all,
I have just completed 2 weeks of augmentin and just started levaquin (1 day so far) for a sinus infection. I have had sinusitis about 2 times a year for a couple years now. I have had allergies (positive test for all things tested)and sinus infections for 5 years now. I just recently started allergy shots (tried 2 other times before but time restraints could not do for more then 3 months)
BTW-I am on a nasal spray, zyrtec, I do nasal rinses 2-3 times a day, done all environmental controls, haave 2 hepa air purifiers-the whole "allergy control" thing is done!!!
Anyways, here is my problem- I have had headaches different from the previous sinus headaches in the past for about a month now. I have extreme pressure/pain in my eye and above it, back of head hurts, the hurting eye tears sometimes, and the dizziness/foggy feeling. The pain has always been there but i have had a few good days where it was real dull with no "fog"feeling. I called ent bc typically i do not drain green mucous with sinusitis I usually only get head pain and tiredness but never on the eye like this. My eye actually hurts-it hurts to blink sometimes!!! I have tried ice/hot packs, excedrin, aleve, advil, sudafed, etc with not much help!!!
I did not want to take the levaquin bc of side effects but started it last night to just try and stop this horrible pain. My doc prescribed prednasone pack too but i refused that since it statees you should not take levaquin with it-dua?!! Why would he prescribe them both for me?!! MY sinus ct showed a "small"sinus infection after 8 days of augmentin so that is the reason for the levaquin. Please any help/advice- i cannot keep living in this pain/fog anymore. My poor 2 young children are suffering with a grumpy in pain mommy!!!
    Sorry so long!!

By the way, I have also set up an appt with my opthamologist and a tmj specialist just to rule that out for the "eye pain" but cannot get in to see them until October!!! Should I have taken the steroid? would that have helped more?! I will take the levaquin again tonight for 2nd dose but do not want to keep taking if this could be something else!!!

Please anyone? Now I am on my 3rd dose of levaquin-thought I was better but the headache/eye pain came back today in the afternoon. Another thing i noticed the past two days the headache/foggy feeling comes about the same time in the afternoon? What is this?!

Sound like you need sinus surgery. I went to a ENT for thyroid and came out of his office schedule for surgery for my sinus and septoplasty. He said all my pain and dizzy symptoms are caused by my sinus. He said I had polyps too. My sinus are not draining at all, so he is going to open the up too. I don't blow green or yellow stuff out of my nose, but have green gross color stuff that goes down my throat. Those I cough up. You should also get a sinus ct.

Thanks MB for the reply. I did have the sinus ct recently and that showed the "small" infection. I will most likely mention the surgery to my ENT next visit even though I am very nervous about it because of the long difficult recovery since I am a stay at home mom with 2 young children-UGH!! The ENT has not mentioned surgery yet to me and I have been seeing them for 6 years now but that may be my only option to prevent these recurring infections and headaches!!! I do have a deviated septum so I guess that could cause headaches-anyone know?!!!

Also if you haven't been checked out. Get your thyroid tested. Chronic sinus issues and eye and joint issues are signs of hypothyroidism. Many thyroid issues develope with and after pregnancy.

The tests need to be run to rule out the thyroid is not an issue are TSH, FT3, FT4, TPOAb and TSI. This covers the main thyroid culprits for the given issues. I had the full ball of wax with regard to sinus surgery.. it has helped.. but I am beginning to have pain and eye issues and skin issues and all sorts of other stuff in higher degrees of discomfort. I just had my thyroid study done in late July and sure enough.. it is my thyroid being the pain in my neck.

    Sincerely,
    MG

Thanks MKG-I just had bloodwork done in spring-my TSH was good 1.84 according to the doctor. THat is the only test she ran though. I will bring it up again next time I am there though.

    Jess,

Can I ask you if you drink or eat things with artifical sweetener in it?

Numbers such as 950 or 951

    G'day Jess,

Looks like we might have a long drawn out conversation as your probably in bed asleep, when I get a chance to get on down here in OZ.

I actually signed up to this forum after reading your symptoms, which in part reminded me of mine.

After the doctors couldn't help, I looked at my enviroment and diet and/or what was new to it.

There was one definate I could find, I'd taken a liking to a new Low Cal Cola, drinking two to six cans a week for about six months prior to my noticing symptoms. I read up on Aspartame, and dropped it from my diet, with in four weeks I began to feel better and now after 10 weeks the fog no longer comes, the dull weird headaches have gone, the pain in the eyes have gone and the feeling of having a head made of lead has also gone.
My concentration has improved, as has my memory.

During this time I read all I could find on Aspartame. (950 & 951). In Australia, and in other parts of the world, there are people calling for it to be banned. However it is deemed safe by the USA Food and Drug Administration, so most such outcrys are generally label as radicals, alarmist etc. In fact it is a very interesting topic and the story has two side to it.

I could post you a few links for you to read ( I'll see what I can find), but I think the best thing to do is prove it to yourself one way or another.

Give it up for 3 months and see how you feel. It could change your life.

Maintain your weight loss with a walk or two.

I'm pretty confident that you'll want to buy me a beer for the tip.

    Cheers

    Metallica.

Thanks Metallica!! I wil try it for a couple months. I too read up on artificial sweetners after your first post and thought maybe I had better try to give it up!!! That would be great if that was the reason for these darn headaches, fog, eye pain, etc...!!! If it is not then at least I have given up something that is not so good for me anyway!!
We will have to see about the beer Jess

    Hi Jess,

Hows the no aspartame diet going?

Still early days yet, (it takes a long time to purge the body) but I noticed improvements after about four weeks you may be different.

    Hope your feeling better

    HI Metallica
It is hard doing no artificial sweetners-it is hidden in many foods. I still have headaches though but no foggy feeling. I think some of my headaches are TMJ related though-feel pain when chewing and I also get headaches after eating hard or chewy things. Thanks for checking. I will definitely keep up the no aspartame diet though!!!
