chronic sinusitis, red eyes, floaters..conection? please help!

I have been just recently diagnosed w/ chronic sinusitis & deviated septum.
I am on antibiotics, and a nasal spray. My eyes are extremely bloodshot, but no gunk in them at all. I have been to an ENT, and the ER twice. They keep telling me different scenarios. I was treated for conjunctivitis, but it only worsened. Now they are saying it could be from my sinuses, and must be treated by the antibiotics. I am seeing floaters mainly in the right eye, and my vision seems to have slightly worsened. Hard to tell, seeing how I am blind as a bat naturally. But, I am fully aware that something is NOT right, and I am having a hard tinme getting the proper diagnosis.

Could this be directly from my sinusitis? (I have had this condition for a long time..was not aware)

What else could it be with my symptoms? any advice? Thank you.

Have you been to an ophthamologist yet?

If not, I would strongly suggest you do so.

I have had red eyes for 3 months now. I started at the optomertrist, then to an opthamologist and now to a corneal specialist. They all think it is some form of conjunctivitis, but aren't sure what type (allergic, bacterial, viral).

I really don't think an ordinary doctor is qualified all of the time to diagnose an eye problem.

Do your eyes itch at all? That is usually a sign of allergic conjunctivitis. I know that if it is baterial conj. not all antibiotics will work. What antibiotics are you on?

Can you at least make an appointment with an opthamologist while waiting for the referral seeing that they can be booked up early?

    Same here. I agree.

    I am on amox-clav 875 mg

No they do not itch hardly at all. But, then again, I make certain to keep my hands away from them, and do not give in to any urges the few times I have felt a slight itch.

I actually have to wait for their phone call w/ the opthamologist's name and number unfortunately. I am trying to light a fire under their @#$ if you know what I am saying. But, they are always behind, and poor at following up.

I've been having the same problem, but I started with an opthamologist. I spent 3 months with him trying to figure out what the problem was with my eyes, then I started to get pain in my face, and thought to think about sinuses. The eye drops were fairly useless.

Anyway, I got a lot of relief by using a hypertonic nasal saline spray, and then I switched to a hypertonic saline wash (web search nasal irrigation). I've got an appointment with an ENT in 2 weeks. It seems there is a pair of sinuses near your eyes that can get infected. There is a bunch of literature on this in Pubmed, but it gets published in ENT journals, not in opthamology journals, so eye doctors don't know about it. Hope that helps. -gg

Hi, I would say that if you have sinusitis, then the eye problems ARE part of this. I have also suffered with chronic sinusitis for 6 years now and am waiting for my second lot of surgery. I know when I have a flare up, as I get floaters. My vision seems 'sluggish' and my already red eyes are redder! Then I start to feel dizzy, hot and feverish and very tired. For 2 years I was diagnosed with stress as I was telling my doctor that I just didn't have the energy to cope with my job, (teacher.) I too am desperate over this problem, but rest assured you are not alone and I have been told that a second operation will be much more thorough than the first one, so I am staying positive and keep taking the antibiotics! ( Trimethoprim is the only one which works for me, by the way...) Best of luck!

Re: chronic sinusitis, red eyes, floaters..conection? please help!

I' had an ENT appointment on Thursday 10th April.
I've had a sinus issue since january this year. Lots of pressure in eyebrow, swelling around the eye (nose side) lost of pain and discomfort.
I've had lots of vision problems since then
blurry vision as if eye drops have been put in the eye
    sun spot type things
and the worse one being a blind sensation in the middle of my face.
My eye seems out of whack and its hard to explain.
it looks straight but it feels as if i'm looking at my nose.
My other eye is lazy so I rely on the ones thats out of whack.

I had the camera up my nose, but the ENT told me that sinus does not affect the eye or vision in any shape or form. So I'm at my wits end as I hate to think I've got to go through the rest of my life looking like this (i'm 43).

She has ordered an ct scan but does not know when it will be.
I've got 3 days of anti-biotics left and she said that she does not want me to take anymore.

I'm going insane here! I spend most of my day either in bed or laying on the sofa with my head covered as I can't stand seeing anymore
