    Whistling sound coming from nose

I've had this nasal whistling sound for around three months now. It started when I closed the windows and door of my room for a couple of weeks. The weather was really hot and the fan was also pointed at my face. So I guess it started because I wasn't getting any fresh air and the heat must have somehow hurt my nostrils. I've been to an ENT specialist and had a CT scan of my nose done. Although I've had post nasal drip for a while and had asthma as a kid, I've never had this nasal whistling sound before. The doctor said that the sound wasn't from the mucus or congestion since my nose looked normal but that it was from inflamed nostrils. I've orally taken steroids and am currently using a nasal spray as well as a saline spray to clear my nose. I'd appreciate any help on how to get rid of inflamed nostrils would help(aside from surgery). Thanks

Whistling in the nose comes from any kind of obstruction, so the goal is to reduce any swelling of the membranes, likely caused by allergies. You can get 4 different types of nasal sprays: saline, steroid, decongestant and antihistamine. Do you know what type you are using? Be sure to use the saline spray first, then the other. You might find nasal irrigations with warm salt water using a sinus irrigation bottle or neti pot more effective. Sometimes you have to attack the problem initially with all 4 types, getting rid of the decongestant first, after no more than 2 weeks, then gradually tapering off the others or maintaining the lowest effective dose. All allergy precautions should be followed, and an oral antihistamine may help too.

    Hi,

Does this happen when you breathe in or out of your nose or with both.
I occasionally get the whistle noise when I breathe out, never knew what caused it but it doesn't bother me,

    Solofelix.

Hi, ladybud. I've been using a saline and steroid spray, haven't tried the decongestant and antihistamine sprays yet. I'll try asking my doctor about those. I've also tried oral decongestants and antihistamines. The decongestant hasn't helped but the antihistamines provide some temporary relief

Hi solofelix, the whistling sound only occurs when I breathe in.
