Possible Skin Cancer- scared mom of 3

Last week when washing my face, I noticed a skin-colored small looking bump on my hair line. I thought it was a zit so I picked at it and it bled weird. I could tell immediately it was not a zit. The skin on the top was almost thin and the whole thing turned bright red and bled. Once the scab fell off, a red spot was left. I have look ed back at photos from a year ago and do not see it- so it seems to have almost popped up overnight. I really think I would have noticed it had it been there bc it is on my temple right on the hairline.

Anyhow, it has been a week since I found it and I went to see my derm today. She said it was concerning because it had blood vessels in it. I had picked it- and I told her that- but she shaved it and sent it off. She said that clinically, it does not present like a Melanoma and is either an irritated spitz that I ****** off or a BCC. Well, I have 3 babies ages 8, 6, and 3 so I am SO scared it is melanoma and she did not know.

My question- I know she can't know for sure but they can know enough to suspect right? I clearly communicated my fear of melanoma and she told me more than once it was not presented as such and looked like a BCC.

She "rushed" the results for me to calm me down bc I almost had a panic attack in the office. I landed here reading about melanomas that do not have to be black and can be flesh toned :-(

Any input or thoughts for this freaked out mama so that she can sleep tonight? I have not even been able to eat I am so nervous!

I had a stage 2 melanoma on my was not red and did not bleed. The good news is that they can be removed. I had MOHs surgery and now sport a lovely scar, but am completely cancer free. I get checked every 6 months just to keep up on it...this one was in an area between my shoulder blades that I really couldn't see- so I was lucky that a girlfriend pointed it out when we were trying on clothes one day...if she hadnt noticed, I might not have found it in time.

Since it appears you have kids- make sure someone (a significant other, friend, relative) looks in areas you cant see for you now and then..or start making full skin checks at the derms office at least once a year. They suggest more often if you do have skin cancer.

Relax- whatever it is , its probably nothing, but it can be removed. You found it quickly...let us know?
    Sending hugs.

Thank you so much for the reply. I am not sure why but I have always gotten checked yearly just because. So I was checked less than a year ago all over my body. I also check the places I can see often. This is why I am sure this spot is new because I look at my face often- I just know I would have seen this. It is right near my eye. God- I just hope its not serious given that it has been a week since I found it and I did not wait on it.

How long did you have yours before you went in to have it looked at? Did they know right away it was a melanoma or did they suspect something else?
