    Sudden extreme stinging itch

I'll try to explain as much as can:

I was laying in bed when this happened. I was typing a message on Reddit when out of nowhere I had this incredibly painful, stinging itch behind my lower leg. It was so sharp and it felt as if something bit me, but there's no bugs wandering around in my sheets. It's hard to explain - compared to other itches, this felt different and it made me flinch bad. A twinge, is that a better word? Anyways, I scratched at it until it was red & raw, but then the itch started to cause my body to itch more.

I want to say that it's my sheets, I really do. However, although random & rare, this same itch does happen outside, either away from my room or just out in public. I know a few of those itches left a bump, but it disappeared afterwards, not to mention it doesn't pop in all the time. And it's not as if it's only in one spot/area - this will happen on my arms, face, torso, scalp, etc. I've read that it might be hives, however, I'm not sure.

Please let me know what you believe might be happening! I'm sick of worrying about it happening again.
