lichen planus in winter?

Last winter I had some lichen planus patches on my shins that only went away after 2 shots of cortisone. I had banged up my shins a little and I was told that especially on the shins an injury can start it or aggravate it. But I've been really careful not to hit them on anything and the patches are back anyway. Does cold/dry weather aggravate the condition? Is there any skin treatment that might ward off the effects of the cold?
