    Question Sweats at night??

Hi, I don't know if anyone has this same problem, but if so please help. I have had horrible night sweats for the past 8 months and it causes me not to sleep very well. I also have fibromyagia. I have so much trouble sleeping even if I am not sweating. I mean it is so bad that I actually have to get up and change and sometimes even change the sheets. Please help. Thank you!!

    Re: Sweats at night??

I feel for you, Megsley. I've had to get up and change my pj's also...one night I had to do it twice. But my bed is big enough that I can just move over to the other side for the rest of the night; I don't have to go to all the trouble of changing the sheets right away.

Unfortunately I don't know what you could do about it. I've changed blankets--I used to use a wool filled comforter that my great-grandmother made, but it's way too warm for me to use now. I can't sleep without blankets, or with just the top sheet b/c then I'm cold. Do you get too cold with out a blanket? Or do you have a thinner blanket you could try? The only other thing I can really think of is talking to your doctor about it. Maybe he or she can suggest a cure. If you do find something that works for you please let me know.

    Good luck.

If you have done all of the obvious things - cotton pajamas, a fan, cool room, no alcohol before bed, etc. I think it is time to talk to a doctor. 8 months is a long time.

Night sweats can be caused by a variety of medical problems, most commonly hormonal imbalances and diabetes. Or it could be nothing, but only a doctor could tell you for sure.

    Good luck.

Night sweats and fibromyalgia can be a symptom of sleep apnea and/or upper airway resistance syndrome (UARS). You can read more about night sweats at [ please do not post commercial websites ]

Upper airway resistance syndrome is not hard to diagnose, but is missed a lot.

The American Board of Sleep Medicine has a page where you can find a sleep specialist in your area http://www.absm.org/Diplomates/listing.htm

In my opinion, the best place to go to be checked for UARS is Stanford Sleep Clinic.

When you all find out what is causing your night sweats let me know. I have been to my primary care doctor, my cardiologist, my endo and none of them know why. I have had blood test after blood test. the ACTH Stimulation Test, and even a Vitamin B-12 test. I am miserable I do not know where to go from here.

    Megsley,

You didn't mention if you were taking any meds. I've found that several families of drugs cause me to have night sweats including, benzos, alcohol, anti-depressants, non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, and even some antibiotics. As others have mentioned, there could be some medical or mental conditions that cause night sweats, but for me, the only time I've experienced them was when I was taking some med.
