Need advice regarding side effects of a scs

    Hi,

I had the nevro hf10 scs implanted in January of 2016 and then a revision in October of 2016 due to anchor placement pain. Now my leads have moved a bit and I am currently in intense pain and noticing I am forgetting things quickly, just overall not thinking right, and my coordination is off. Could the scs be causing this since it moved? It is very concerning to my family and me. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Did you have a failed back surgery or why did you have the scs implanted?

The problems with forgetfulness, etc. began after the revision?

Yes failed back surgery after my fusion of L5-S1 in 2015. They leads have moved and now the distal end is located at T8 and T7. Originally they were at T9 and T10 when they did the revision. My confusion started only a few weeks ago but progressively getting much worse. Can thou explain how that could occur? Thank you

I'm sorry but I can't really speak to the confusion. Problems of coordination, as I understand it, could be caused by the leads or it could be nerve damage from the initial problem at L5-S1.

I am fused from L3 to S1 and have damage that causes me to have poor balance and issues with proprioception. Sometimes when I get up after sitting a bit, when I first walk, it looks like I had a three martini lunch! Or if I turn around too quickly, I can briefly stumble.

How much investigation did you do of the failed back surgery syndrome before you agreed to the neurostimulator? By that I mean did you consult with other spine surgeons to see if there were any other options?

If you are worried about the confusion, you might want to have the scs removed and see how you are without it. Perhaps there is some sort of revision you could have for the L5-S1 issues.

Unfortunately, my injury was work related and my options are limited. I feel like if I was avle to get other opinions, my outcomes could have been better. But, at this point I'm where I'm at. However, at the age of 38, I do feel like we jumped the gun with the stimulator. The dr amd I are now in discussions about removing it and getting an mri to see what else could be going on since my pain has worsened.

Was the neurostimulator implanted by a spine surgeon or a pain management doctor?

Once it is out, can you go to a different spine surgeon or will all of this be considered part of the workmen's comp case?

It was implanted by pain management and yes it is all workmans comp, so even when its out I'll have to still use their doctors, I'm assuming, at least until they deam me at MMI. That is the frustrating part of it.

Just wondering how things turned out for you. I have been approved for the Nevro HF10 and should have the trial in Dec or Jan. Having mixed emotions but feel I have no choice but to try it. Can you not have an MRI with it in?

Have you explored all other options regarding your pain? I assume you have had a surgery that didn't resolve your original symptoms...would that be correct?
