    Possible nerve compression

For the past few weeks Iíve been having numbness in my left hand and fingers. Sometimes I have a burning pain on the top of my arm as well as numbness on the top. I do have some neck pain when I turn it side to side. The numbness in my hand and arm gets a little worse while lying down. Also sitting in a chair if I grab the back of my neck and squeeze it the tingling in my hand almost goes away and when I let it go the tingling comes back. I was worried about a possible cardiac issue but how long itís persisted and being able to squeeze my neck and the numbness subsided some is it possibly and pinched nerve in my neck?

    And Merry Christmas

    Re: Possible nerve compression

It could very possibly be a pinched nerve in your neck. You should start with an ortho or neuro and ask for an Xray, followed by a MRI....this will show compression of any nerves.

There isnt allot that can be done, but PT can help...your doctor will decide if it's right for you.

    Re: Possible nerve compression

The symptoms you describe sound like you may have either irritation or compression of a cervical spinal nerve. If it continues to bother you, the appropriate specialist would be either a fellowship-trained orthopedic spine or neurosurgeon. Just be sure the practice is limited to issues of the neck and back. Another possibility would be to go to a physiatrist...a doctor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

You may be dealing with a disc problem or stenosis that is causing nerve compression.
