    Re: Cervical Bone Spurs!!

A spur is usually an indication of an underlying problem. When I had my ACDF in Feb my neck was full of spurs, which were removed during the proceedure and I'm doing well now.

It is very frustrating when doctors give conflicting diagnosis. You have to ask yourself whom to you trust the most or feel is most qualified and follow your gut instinct sometimes. It's difficult. I was misdiagnosed until I was 30 with "a rare form of arthritis", it turned out to be a genetic syndrome. I had my neck problem misdagnosed as a shoulder problem and had an unneeded operation. It happens sometimes. Same with surgical opinions, one doctor may tell you one thing, one will tell you another.

It's best to find a doctor you are comfortable with and can trust.

For what it's worth you aren't nuts and it's not in your head. You have a very real medical condition and very real pain. If your pain is severe and you aren't going a surgical route you may want to seek out a pain management doc and at least try to get the pain levels down some.

    Good luck to you

You need to get a second opinion. Ask your general doc to refer you or find someone yourself. The "could cause more damage" issue is troubling.

Bone spurs are very common, but are a big problem if they grow into a nerve space or into your spinal cord.

My recent surgery removed a number of them, and one that was causing most of my pain.

i agree with the above poster see if u can get a copy of your mri ( if they bothered to do one ) and get an appointment with an orthopedic surgon and or an orthopedic spine specialist

keep at it and keep looking sometimes it takes the right combination of docs tests and more then one doc confering on difficult situations
what ended up working for me is my internist, remolotoglist, and ortho talking to one another and working together

it wasn't all in my head as they did testing they each found more, and more, stuff.....

once they agreed i needed the surgery the ortho contacted my remo and they signed a release form and agreed to moniter me after the surgery

for me, it took my communication, and their communication, to get some things accomplished .........

good luck with your search keep at it and be persitant
thats why they call certain things ( 2nd opinions)

    Re: Cervical Bone Spurs!!

I have had the same thing happen to me. I have had neck pain for years. Three years ago I had PT for torn rotator cuff. I had an MRI -and had shoulder surgery. The neck pain and weakness got worse. Went back to ortho surgeon. Had emg and another MRI. I had ACDF C5-6-7 11/03. The PAIN is back!!! My NS said at last visit I either have not fused or have the dreaded Domino Effect. I have tingling in my left arm, back of neck and shoulder. Pain in my arm and terrible headaches. I have an (Emergency Appointment with my NS July 29th.
This past weekend I hurt so bad I cried and cried. I do take ultracet for pain-but it doesn't seem to help anymore.
