    Granulation after L5 laminectomy

I must first give you some background: My husband had a serious workplace accident more than ten years ago. At the time nothing showed on an XRay. He was put on short duty for awhile, but never did return to work. He told his physician repeatedly that he was in extreme pain, but they kept blowing him off as a slacker! An MRI was not done until 1996 and at that time a ruptured disc was discovered. He had a laminectomy within a couple of months. The pain was relieved short term, then in 1997 he was referred to a neurosurgeon who found a fractured vertabra at the same level (L5-S1) Another surgery was done to remove bone fragments, one of which was right into the nerve fibres. His pain levels have been going uncontrolled for some time and the doctors would NOT change his meds. As a result he recently spent a week in hospital in such severe pain you would swear he was having seizures! Fortunately we were able to get a new doctor and he jumped right onto this mismanagement ordeal. We saw a pain specialist today who told him he has granulation and this excludes many possibilities for pain control. I mean no disrespect, but the lady was a foreign doctor and we found her difficult to understand and therefore we didn't get a satisfactory explanation of this condition. Is anyone familiar with it and can spell it out in plain language?

Go to google and search 'spine and granulation'. It's kind of technical.
