    Wink 3 level fusion question

Hello, I have a few questions that I hope you all might be able to help me with. Last year I had a 1 level fusion (L4-5). Since then it has failed and now the 2 levels above have spinal stenosis. I am now going to have a 3 level fusion, using BMP material. Does anyone know the difference in surgery/recovery time from a 1 level and a 3 level fusion? Also, with a fusion from l2-5, will I have less of a range of motion? My Neuro. had me do a discogram after seeing my MRI and suspecting the 2 addnl. levels were causing my pain. She said, " I sure dont want to do a 3 level fusion on a 40 yr old, if I am not certain that they need it". What would those reasons be? They didn't hesitate w/ the one level, but are hesitanting for a 3 level.

Any imput would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks, Lorie

Thumbs up Re: 3 level fusion question

    Hi Lorie,

Not sure why the doctor mentioned your age. I am 44 years old, and I had a three-level ACDF (anterior cervical decompression and fusion) at C4-5 through C6-7. So not quite what you are having.
I can tell you that I am now two weeks post-op and generally feeling great. By and large, it was a couple of days post-op that I was uncomfortable.
All the best to you for your surgery!
