    Re: botox and neck spasms

I have had terrible neck spasms and also in the trapezius area for the last 5 yrs. I tried Botox (in those areas) in Oct. I was so sure it would help, but it didnt.
When the Botox didnt work, that is when my Physiatrist realized that I should see a surgeon. Because if you dont fix the underlying problem causing the spasms, not much will really help them for any length of time. As a matter of fact I am waiting on a call back to see when my ACDF is being rescheduled, since it got postponed on 12/21/06 due to a blizzard.

    Re: botox and neck spasms

Thanks for info. My long-winded story.

I have had neck spasm problems dating back to 1998 and motorcycle accident. Computer work and stressful situations add to problems. I have been to 3 chiro's, 5 sessions of PT, 4 massage therapists including trigger point massage (very painful), trigger point injections from D.O., etc. These spasms interferes with every aspect of my life. No one can understand what feels like to have a pair of pliers squeezing my scalenes and sterno muscles. I had 2nd rear end collision MC accident in 2005. Started whole medical 3 ring circus again. Now I have numb fingers etc especially if I talk on phone etc. Had been diagnosed previous with CTS and got to wear those splints with no success. I decided that I would put that off until I started dropping things. Did some research on internet and ended up at NS. He sent me for MRI and found compression in C5-7. I scheduled ACDF but decided to get 2nd op. 2nd doc said no surgery needed but sent me for EMG and 6wks of cervical therapy with cervical traction. EMG doc said CTS not neck causing numbness. Ok..... I went to Hand doc and he agreed. OK.... I'll go with that.
I am in week 4 of PT and we do make progress but then lose ground once I leave and go back to work, stress and computers. I did more interent research and hear about Botox. Makes some sense....... I'll try it. In the end I may end up with ACDF. but as a last resort.

Sorry for long reply but I guess you know what it is like. Had to vent.

I would definitely try the Botox injections. Alot of people get help. I dont know why it didnt help me, but it does help many people. Go for it and I wish you all the best! Let us know if it helps you, ok??
