Hi Misty, Have you had an recent MRI of your neck? I have daily leg problems/pains due to my c5-c6 cord compression..Is your herniated/deteriorated disc compressing your cord? If so, my guess is that could very well be the reason for your leg pain.

Before my herniated disc started compressing my cord my pain was localized in the neck and arm...since i had an injury that caused my herniated disc to compress the cord, i have had pain in virtually every part of my body, including legs...My neuro says neck cord compression can cause leg problems...

Good luck and let me know!

Erica is very right about the possible cord compression in the c spine causing leg problems.i have permanent damage to my legs caused by spinal cord injury done from surgery between my c 7 and t 1.the big thing here tho is have you actually had an MRI of the rest of your spine or at least the lumbar?this could very well be non related to your c spine but stemming from a lumbar issue.

I also wanted to ask you if the "nero' you referred to is an actual neurosurgeon or just neurologist?this would make a huge difference in the way these two docs may see your problem, believe me.they just have different perspectives since they actually do two pretty much seperate jobs.neurosurgeons in most cases, just tend to see more of the nerve to body system function part of things much more clearly since they actually have to do surgerys on peoples brains and spinal cords.the knowledge gained there beats a basic neurologists by a mile, just for that reason alone.

You really do need toobtain an MRI of the lumbar area just to see whats up there.also, depending on when that initial MRI was done, you really should get anohter to compare any further progression of damage, espescially when changes are present, like with your legs.and definitely seek out agood neurosurgeon for an initial consult or getting another opinion if you actually are seeing one now.not all neurosurgeons will have the exact same level of knowledge either.experience with any particular area of expertise they have is really what tells you who would be better for your particular needs.not all of them are even qualified to even do certain spinal cord surgerys at all,and then some are.you know what i mean?neurosurgeons tend to specialize in particular areas just like any other specialist.i have had to see three seperate neurosurgeons for my spinal cord surgery and not all of them even did this type of surgery.i wish you luck with this and hope you can find the source of the leg problems quickly.please keep us posted.Marcia

Hi misty, you sound just like me, i suffer all the same symptons as you, c5/6 discectomy oct 05 did not rid me of problems, my pain spec did another mri jan this year which showed large bulging disc to my luber spine, he thinks this is cause of my leg problems! now i'm having a lumbar epidural to see if this rids pain in legs, if not we know its my neck which is causing problems and then its back to square one. It just shows that differnt dr's can come up with different diagnosis, perhaps a second opinion in your case is advisable.
