Re: Share some symptoms of bulging disc or disc problems please

    Sammy,

I left oyu a message about the Oxycodone in the thread about "anyone ever experience this with friends"

I have mildly bulging discs in my neck and it is hard for me to tell about the pain in the extremities because I already have permnent nerve damage in my left arm, but I can tell you that every now and then my arm will feel suddenly weak. Even if I am just sitting all of a sudden it will just feel heavy.

The other thing that I do have is a tingling funky sensation that happens to my left side of my face and jaw down my neck to the back of my neck and down the back of my shoulder. It at this point is more annoying and bothersone than terribly painful. Every now and then it flares up and is very painful and I can do nothing but lay down and rest.

I am only taking an anti inflamatory and occasional muscle realxer because the narcotics...well I jsut can't take them..the side effects are to much.
    Anyway hang in there....Chrissy

Re: Share some symptoms of bulging disc or disc problems please

    Sammy,
Have you tried doing a web search for something like "symptoms cervical disks" or maybe "symptoms bulging disks neck". That kind of thing?
I have so much stuff going on in one level right now that I couldnt isolate the symptoms because some of it may be the bone spurs and facet joint issues, and some of it may be the disk degeneration and bulges. When you have alot going on there, who can tell what the cause of my pain is? I had to have multiple types of injections to see if they could isolate the pain. (before my fusion). Whenever I had facet joint injections, it was better, but it still hurt alot due to the degenerated disks and bulges. Same thing with Epidural Steroid injections. That helped some of the disk pain, but not the spurs and facet joints. I had a 2 level fusion in Jan. which did help alot, but I still have one bad level which is making me have to accept more pain all the time. So my suggestion to you would be to do that web search. I would say alot of people on here have a lot of stuff going on, not ONLY bulging disks, so you may get alot of conflicting stuff from all of us.

Thanks yes I have done web search, my symptoms come from different locations and are getting worse so it is hard to pin down, not one to self diaganos, but hoping someone has run into simular problems, Docs so far have different opinions so conflicts there also, new tests to go through hoping something is found but sick of the pain and my life being upside down. sometimes you can learn by asking others and what a wonderful place to do so, may indeed give me food for thought even when dealing with docs. You hear how slow the wheels of justice turn much the same when waiting to find out about a medical problem, so I might as well ask others and if anything contribute and hopefully help, even if by just being understanding. Good luck to you and I do indeed appreciate all responses.

Sorry I couldnt be of more help. I Know what pinched nerves feels like. One of the symptoms I have is numb hands when sleeping. I have to wear wrist braces. I have Carpal Tunnel also, so that one is also hard to pin down, how much is from nerve damage from C6-C7 pinching for 5 years, and how much from the Carpal Tunnel. I am sure you will get alot of responses soon!

Re: Share some symptoms of bulging disc or disc problems please

    Sammy,

I am so sorry to hear that things are feeling worse. For three years I have been on workers comp for my arm and I am almost off. So I am no stranger to feeling in pain and as though my life is upside down.

Trying to sift through the red tape of docs and tests and waiting can be so stressful on top of the terrible pain.

I do not know how I have made it to where I am. I just keep putting one foot in front of the other. I also pray a lot....all the time. For courage and willingness.

SO I thought that I was almost done with docs and tests and pain etc, and in an instant I am right back there again acept it is because someone pulled out in front of me and I hit them. I was going 50 mph just before I hit them. They were cited as being in the wrong but that does not change the way I feel.
Now I have bulging discs in my neck.
They are not touching the cord but I am in alot of pain.

You just gotta keep on top of things and put those feet out there one in front of the other.

I know everyones circumstances are different but I hope this gives you some Hope that you will be OK.

In the last 3 years I have managed to stay clean and sober had 2 female surgeries 4 arm surgeries 2 relationships that went south and five semesters of school. Pain management medication issues and many many days and nights crying myself to sleep because I thought I could not go on anymore.....But I am still here!!!!
Through all this stuff I am most happy that on September 9th I will have been sober for 3 years!! If I can walk through all that in three years and still be OK than I now you can walk through what you gotta walk through same as me. We don't have to go it alone. I sure didn't.

All the doc stuff is a process and I know it takes a long time sometimes but that is just the way it works.
This is your health and your life and sometimes you need to be a little pesty to expidite things out a bit faster.
Hang in there....I am right here with you as many others are too.....Chrissy

Re: Share some symptoms of bulging disc or disc problems please

Sammy I was just in the other thread and wanted to post this here because it was getting a bit off the friends topic.

Anyway, yes I have taken Lyrica and I had a bad experience with it. This is not meant to scare you. Everyone is different and this may be a drug that works for you.
As far as nerve pain meds go...I have run the gamet with them and the one that helped most for me was Cymbalta. I am not sure that it helped the pain be 50% better maybe 10% better but it sure has improved my coping skills and moods.
The only drug that ever reduced my pain to almost nothing was a very serious contiversial drug. It is also a drug that many abuse..although I could never see why. I hated the side effects but it really helped. I really do not suggest this drug at all because it was very hard to get off of it even though I never abused it. It was GRUELING and I was sick for a long time while I tapered and in the end I could not stand it and I went Cold turkey.

The drug is MEthadone and please if you are ever offered this for your pain will you please ask me my whole story in its entirety before you take this.
It is something I would not even consider taking again unless I was in pain 10 X the pain I was in before.
Being that you work in the health care feild I am sure you have heard of it and about it. There are many other avenues of drugs to consider before this.

    Chrissy...check you tomorrow

Re: Share some symptoms of bulging disc or disc problems please

    Sammy,
I had all those same symptoms of the neck, shoulder and middle back and I had a C5-C7 fusion in Jan. I still have them, although now I notice with the C4-5 issues, it is now in the shoulder blades, and shoulders, also, which I read was typically C4-5. I never had herniated disks, just bulging. Some people have NO symptoms from bulging disks and others have bad pain. It gets infuriating.

Re: Share some symptoms of bulging disc or disc problems please

    Hi Sammy,

All the things that happened to my arm were caused from a work related injury and the stuff going on in my neck I really believ that it was caused from the car accident.
I never had any problems in my neck and shoulder before so...who knows.

Yesturday at the end of the day was rough!! I was in a lot of pain. All I did yesturday was drive around and pay a few bills had the oil changed and tires rotated on my car. Then my Mom came to visit and we went out to eat and then to play in the casino and it just got to painful. I asked if she could take me home.

I am only on the Mobic anti inflamatory 1 time a day and I have flexeril that I can take up to 3 times, but I hate taking meds...to many side effects.

Anyway when I got home I took a hot shower and then got on the board and posted to you. Then right to bed for this girl.

I just managed to go for a 1 mile walk but it was really tough the last 1/2 mile but it is important to do it because medication just blocks up my digestive system and I was pretty sick over the weekend from all that. Even went to the ER. I have some other things wrong with my colon so I gotta move even if it hurts...I gotta do it because it is helpful for my system.

Please do not beat yourself up over the bonfire thing. Today is only Wed. so you gotta few days untill you get to that point. I know pain is tough but sometimes we have no other choice but to breathe through it and if you are a spiritual person the pray. That is what I do because at some point I just gotta surrender the stuff to something up above because I on my own can not manage it. It just is. Yes it sucks and is uncomfortable but hte more I fight it and do not just accept it the harder my day is.
I do what I can do...ya know...sometimes that is all.

Hang in there girl..think of the millions of others in your position or worse. Make a list of what you are grateful for today!
I may not have the things I think I want but I got what I need.
Have a giid rest of your day and I will check back later.....Chrissy

    SKZ,
Thanks so much for responding, the docs, say my problems in the discs cannot be causing all this pain, do you know if and MRI. done back on June 1,would still be reliable today? This is very infuriating, just thought I would ask?
All I know is something is causing it & its getting worse all the time.

Re: Share some symptoms of bulging disc or disc problems please

    Sammyo1:
I had an MRI last Oct. before my surgery in Jan. I just had another one in July because I went on a trip to NYC and DC in May and I really felt bad by the time I got back from pulling so much luggage, so many times. ( I over -packed).I am sure the lunatic cab drivers stopping short didnt help because it really hurt everytime they did it. I have new symptoms since the trip. MY PT totally suspected that C4-C5 (a level I didnt have fused) was the culprit, so she called my Spinal surgeon's office and got me in 2 days later. TThey did Xrays and luckily the fusion was fine. They suspected the C4-C5 thing too, so they ordered another MRI (post surgery). The MRI showed no change, yet I have new pain DEEP in my scapular area and the middle of my back, and also my left shoulder.Sometimes I will be fine, and then all of a sudden this horrendous pain happens where I have to actually say OUCH out loud, no matter where I am. But the MRI says nothing is new. My guess is, that a nerve got pinched even more since the last MRI. That kind of pain where you have to yell outloud, sound like a real pinched nerve thing to me. The thing is, if you have another MRI, it could show no change, (like mine). even if you are in worse pain. The only reason I would think a Dr. would order another one so soon would be if you hurt yourself since June. I know, for me, I did hurt myself since the last MRI I had last Oct. So they figured it was time for another one. I dont have alot of faith in the radiologists who read those films. They totally made a LARGE mistake on mine as to the level that was bad now. I had to make them do an addendum to the report, which took 3 weeks. Unreal.

SKZ,I know there is something without a doubt, funny thing so did the PT, because of the symptoms(tingling&numness) not to mention pain. Can you lift your arm or move your shoulder, Most of the time I can't and boy does it cause spasms and pain at times,do you feel it in the upper chest area at all? I wonder if a CT would show anything? Going for EMG & bone scan of arm monday, Nuero surgeon thinks perhaps it could be something deep in shoulder, but then why does my back other things hurt, like my leg. Real confused. I can see why it would bother the neck but that is it. Thanks I look forward to hearing from you.

I don't have trouble lifting my arm or moving the shoulder. Nothing like that. And nothing in the upper chest. All of my pain is in my neck, upper back, scapula, and some shoulder pain.

Re: Share some symptoms of bulging disc or disc problems please

    Hello All,

Well Sammy I am glad to hear your a spiritual person to. And that you are superwomen. It sounds to me like you still are!!!! You are still here facing all the things in front of you so in my opinion I think your amazing!!!!

My discs they say are not touching the cord and that there is no neural impingement but sometimes the back of my shoulder feels tingly and funny. Sometimes I also have a deeper pain with in the scapula area. The pain in my neck varies from day to day.

But like yesturday was a bad one. My mom and I did some light shopping today and she is awesome!! She got one of those pillows specifically for my neck. Last night I used a rolled up T-Shirt so she took me to get a pill this morning.

I also get a fatigued feeling in my left arm sometimes. Not that often but every ow and then I will just be sitting or whatever and my arm will feel very heavy. Can't say what it is from because of all the work and because of the permanent Nerve damage that is already over there.

So I am wondering like you how I have nerve tingliy or numbing sensatios on the neck and scapula and they say the nerve is not impinged....what else would cause that? Tears in the muscles and what not around my C-Spine area.

    Chrissy
